My favourite Tree

It's a miracle that this wonderful old maple whose shadowed branches you see is still standing. It has withstood 3 hurricanes since we have lived here and is almost hollow, to the point where a raccoon raised her family in the trunk. In its time it had a rope tire swing hanging from a large branch, but that broke years ago and there are no children to play on it now.
It is still my favourite tree.

There is a very light covering of snow on the ground with the sharp shadow of tree branches from a strong sun directly above them. Some of the branches are seen at the top of the frame, obviously from a very old tree, judging from the shadow. On the right is the start of a woodland with dark evergreen and deciduous trees. Ahead is a slope up to the edge of a field with some low brown vegetation. The sky, framed by the trees and field, has light puffy clouds near the horizon, then a bright blue patch and finally a dark band of cloud reaching to the top of the frame.

Old Cape Spear Lighthouse, Newfoundland
March 21, 2013
I was invited to accompany @StevenKennard on one of his teaching trips, this time to Newfoundland (1/4 of my family hail from NFLD ).
This lighthouse is iconic and the day was perfect for our only day of sightseeing.

The left of the scene is the ocean, with a sky partly dark and light cloud, partly blue. There are brown rough rock cliffs stretching into the distance, meeting the ocean with the waves forming a white, foamy edge to the water. The top of the cliff is worn, rounded rock with some brown vegetation flattened against it, perhaps by bad weather and high waves. Perched on top of the cliff is a round white lighthouse with a red striped roof of the actual light section. There is a low, white fence around it, set back a bit from the edge, to stop anyone from falling over.

Bee Happy - Spring Bee

The bees need water too, so I always make sure to have handy rough surfaced rocks that a bee can get a foothold on while drinking, then climb onto, to rest before taking off.
I'm looking forward to when the days are warm enough to see the bees again.
