Another peaceful #morning to you all in #mastodon I've been focusing on my daily practice lately. That is to say, my morning routine. I don't #sleep well, so I wake up early. I take a minute to eat some fruit or vegs, make some #coffee and practice my qigong. If you don't know what qigong is, it's energy practice. No, not Dragonball Z #energy, but actual energy. You can find out more about it here
What's your morning routine? Do you have a daily practice? Let me know!

#Energy #Renewable Energy
My latest #article is live! It’s an introduction to the #energy practice called #Qigong. I wanted to start with a very simple conceptual overview before I dig in further. So, I hope you enjoy this completely #free piece.
The regulator said on Oct. 9, the energy company reported an “unplanned release” of around 662 cubic metres from the pond adjacent to Fort Hills into the #AthabascaRiver.
But on Nov. 24, Suncor informed the regulator that the #oilspill was likely much larger than originally reported.
What we call progress and development may actually be a road to hell.
#Motor #emissions could have fallen by over 30% without #SUV trend, report says
Powering #artificial #intelligence models takes a lot of #energy. A new analysis demonstrates just how big the problem could become
And so on and so forth....
I appreciated this Foreign Policy article that talks about how the green transition will mean LESS mining, not more.
Though I wouldn't call the argument that renewables require an unacceptable amount of mining an "emerging narrative" – seems like people have been making that claim for years now.
Flooded mines across the UK could store large amounts of wind energy that would otherwise go to waste by heating up the water within them. The heat could then be extracted to warm homes in winter.
A test of the idea is being planned in Scotland in 2024.
[but don't hold me to that]
After the devastating Dutch elections [22-11-'23] I decided to dedicate my toots back to the original goal.
I care about a lot of issues, most global some national; but I won't be 'tooting' about them all.
First and formost I WANT to 'toot' about:
Because I trust that most people reading know about the dreadfull future of climate change, I want to spread the, possible, solutions to a problem rather than reiterate on the problem.
One of those solution might be sueing the polluters or governments on human rights, violations or #Ecoside
Action is by all means a solution.
As said I want to focus on the global issue. I don't want to nitpick on too much principles. Like: "What's worse: eating cows or driving diesel?" Both are devastating behaviors of intitled rich people!
On the otherhand therefore I truly respect ANY effort to make a change for the better.
Most of all... I want to add instead of preach. Bring some bits of the puzzle to the table.
I'm NOT a scientist of any kind. I'm just a disabled old white guy typing on a desk reading and searching a lot.
I tend to toot 2 - 3 times a day, but that's NOT a promise.
I tend to follow anyone who 'retoots' or 'favourites' my toots. Forget it, I'm vain.

"Renewable electricity is rising quickly, but the world’s power mix remains fossil fuel-heavy — for now."
As refining has been (in the past) a particular bottleneck in #petrol supply, the move for it to become an import processing plant for #LNG and also to some extent an exporter of LNG-derivitives, may shift the landscape of #energy distribution in the UK.
The Q. is whether this is a problem for 'energy security', a welcome kick towards the transition to #electricvehicles or just the consequence of foreign ownership?
Is anyone able to explain reactive power to me like I’m five? I read this and I’m not entirely understanding it.
This article mentions that reactive power is tied to grid inertia, but I don’t understand how. I understand grid inertia and the need for things like synchronous condensers and grid forming inverters, but how is that at all related to reactive power other than both of them being characteristics of AC electrical systems?
Oh wow, what if this really works well?
Northvolt, Europe’s only large homegrown electric battery maker, created 'breakthrough' more sustainable sodium-ion battery at lower cost to store electricity without lithium, nickel, graphite, cobalt.

For the most part some firms were able to maintain profits (underpinning inflationary pressures) & others were not; there was not a general spike in profitability that might be a 'smoking gun' for greedflation.... that is, except for #energy & extractive (mining) firms - there profitability rose!
So, as many suspected energy prices were the inflationary engine... not wage increases!

Once completed, the 700-megawatt cable will run between Ireland’s south coast and France’s north coast.

Meanwhile the negotiations in Nairobi to combat the #plastic blighting oceans, floating in the atmosphere & infiltrating the bodies of animals and humans continue.

The best way is to use less plastic in the first place, and to choose more sustainable options whenever possible.
