I wont pretend to know cats. I think this is a Siamese cat - Looks like one of the cats from Lady and the Tramp. I am prepared to be schooled. Eitherway its a head shot and the cat has glassy blue eyes.

#GraphicDesign #Ephemera ❝In 1936 I began to paint concrete pictures and I have never stopped.❞

#VerenaLoewensberg (1912–1986) was a Swiss graphic designer and painter who studied weaving, drawing, and color theory at the Basel Gewerbeschule. https://awarewomenartists.com/en/artiste/verena-loewensberg

An untitled oil painting from 1970. It is a very minimalist, color-field of yellow, orange, and red interweaving squares which are slightly off kilter rendered as an abstract geometric pattern with a white square in the middle framing it in a harmonious way.
An untitled oil painting from 1974. This one is my favorite. It's a series of undulating thick lines in a rainbow of color. The motion of these blocks of color look like a flag that's gently flapping in the wind.
An untitled oil painting from 1975. Here again are color-fields, except there are only 2 intertwining squares with thick, dynamic swashes in yellow, blue, and red like a prism radiating out from the center.
An untitled oil painting from 1970. It is a series of thick line strokes in purple, yellow, red, green, blue, and turquoise against a stark white background interweaving themselves vertically and horizontally into an abstract geometric pattern.

#GraphicDesign #Ephemera #FolkeRabe That thing that happens when you can't find a good version of the album art online so, dammit, you redo it from scratch.

The album cover art for Folke Rabe's 1970 minimalist recording "Was??" which was later reissued with a second version played at half-speed, i.e. one octave lower. It was originally released by Wergo as a split LP with a piece by Bo Anders Persson on the flip side. The artwork is very Swiss modern using Futura Bold along the top in black with hairline stroke in yellow as a highlight against a white background. It's stark, yet it isn't entirely cold, and that fits the mood of the music. Also, you can read it from across the room!

I have returned. My computer failed. I still cannot sign into google so am living off grid as a guest, I have to sign in every time to every site but I leave no trace.
This has many benefits.
Today on Firework Night I bring you a little gem from cartophily, Guy Fawkes, in his cellar.
This card was issued by Churchman of Ipswich in Suffolk, in December 1931.
There are more cards on show at https://csgb.co.uk/research/blog/f-fawkes-and-fireworks

#cartophily #ephemera #GuyFawkes #BonfireNight #FireworkNight #Churchman #Ipswich

This is a small card measuring about 38 x 68 millimetres.
The front shows Guy Fawkes in a brown broad brimmed hat, bright red sleeveless outer waistcoat and brown long sleeved undercoat and trousers, with long thigh length grey boots. He is on the right hand side, hiding behind a pillar with his barrels of gunpowder, oddly on plain view, and just to his left is an arched doorway through which you can see a long curving flight of stairs. Perhaps his captors are already approaching.
It is a very atmospheric picture.

The back of the card is printed in very dark green. It has the title of the set in a box at the top "The Houses of Parliament and Their Story", then tells us it was "A series of 25" and that this is card number 24. The title of the card follows, "Guy Fawkes`s Cellar".
And then the text reads :

A flight of stairs leading from the Chapel in St. Stephens Crypt to Old Palace Yard roughly corresponds to the position of the cellar to which Guy Fawkes brought the gunpowder with which he hoped to blow up the House in 1605. A search, organised through the investigation of a message sent to Lord Monteagle warning him not to attend the Opening of Parliament, revealed thirty-six barrels of gunpowder concealed in this cellar. At the present day, before the Opening of Parliament, a picturesque procession of Yeomen of the Guard searches the vaults for evidence of the handiwork of any modern imitator of Guy Fawkes.

four card packages of faucet washers from PARCO of Bell, California, one with a factory-printed card price label of 16 cents. two cards are printed in orange on white, two are printed in what looks like peacock blue on white. All are labelled as packed in the US by union labour and feature a cartoon sun over a late-1950s ranch style house on a big lawn
closer shot of one of the peacock blue packages, which is very yellowed but shows the caricatures of a businessman and a man in overalls waving to the viewer.

elephant brand steel wool package of unknown vintage but decades old. yellow background with a large italic white I, the word ELEPHANT in black outline, and the words “Brand steel wool 8 pads 0000 finest” in black. In the upper left a cartoon elephant wears an ISW banner, and is surrounded by a circle with the words PRIME PRODUCERS METALLIC WOOL. On the side, wool grades 0000 through 4 are described.
Opposite sides, same package, the difference being that the visible side of the package describes in very vague terms how to use steel wool.

5) An A-Z sampling of ephemera from the Burns Library Collections

Shown here: “U is for Union Stamps.

Dues stamps were made to record payment of trade union dues. This union stamp book was kept by David Goldstein, a former Socialist turned Catholic evangelical author and public speaker, who had been a union member. 1908-1909.”
