New episode of Just Sustainability alert:
Listen to the conclusion of the conversation that Jill Fellows and I had here: https://just-sustainability.com/?p=435
Jill told me about ways that technology can be liberatory (and not just reflective of our biases and the ways folks are oppressed) and we considered how the dominant narratives about digital technology tend to obscure its harmful environmental and social impacts.
The Canada #Infrastructure Bank has already got $2 billion in equity investment loans out to Indigenous communities and is looking for more opportunities to grow that number.
Loans for up to 90 per cent equity can be arranged for projects in #green infrastructure, clean power, public transit, #trade and #transportation, and #broadband infrastructure ranging from $5 million to $100 million.
We can fix each of the discrete concerns raised here and score, maybe, a C- with our #students. #Personalization isn’t extra credit, it’s how we bring relevance and purpose back to our #schools, and how it all comes together with #equity and #wellness. #education https://www.gettingsmart.com/2023/12/04/the-students-are-talking-its-time-we-listen/

(The answer to the #MiddleEast conflict is simple: #intersectional #SlamPoetry. I recently announced that I will soon be touring #Gaza, #Iran and #SaudiArabia — mostly vegan cafes and community centres — in order to perform my poems and spread the message of #diversity, #equity and #inclusion.
I will be accompanied by my friends from the “#QueersForPalestine” collective, who will doubtless receive a warm welcome.)
Thanks to the #uva chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architecture Students for asking me to speak tonight. I hope I was able to give you some context for these rules we are all beating our heads against and how we can build a better and more free world. #architecture #zoningreform #aesthetics #equity https://www.noma.net/about-noma/

@johnshirley2024 global society does not need tech for abundance. We have enough. What we need is #equity so everyone can have some. To reach abundance, we must stop witholding based on merit. Instead, we must ubiquitously value each others lives. If you need criteria, credit people for capacity for empathy and love.

@bookish this is a relatively new area of study so we don’t have a lot of real world assessments. Here is a simulation that looked at how this would work for Seattle. 🤸🏼 Oh, happy (play) day! California students in kindergarten through 8th grade will get mandatory 30-minute recess under a new state law.
The new law will also prohibit educators from withholding #recess as a form of punishment, Brian Watt reports for KQED.

Last year, 38 people were killed by cars while walking in Atlanta. More than two-thirds of Atlanta’s pedestrian fatalities occurred in predominantly Black neighborhoods, where policies resulted in fewer sidewalks, crosswalks, bike lanes, and safe streets. This is a public health crisis, and leaders need to act now to create safe and equitable infrastructure. The Centre for Active Transportation has an interesting looking webinar coming up on Nov 17. And it's free.
Countries that are the least responsible for the excess carbon in the atmosphere and also have the least resources to adapt to the advancing climate crisis are being hit the hardest by extreme events.
If an establishment's #accessible entry involves those with #disabilities using the same back-alley ramp as the building's trash disposal, you're not actually providing the same access other people have; instead, it's the same access the garbage has.
#Disabled folks aren't garbage. No one should be patting themselves on the back for rolling someone's wheelchair up the trash bin ramp.
