@BryanLastRedDrop very good thing. i always hope they flock to their fellow grifters grifting them with proprietary communication services. the prosperity gospel is strong with them, so #FLOSS is not valued often.
Holy shit VIA (that open source keyboard config thing) is vomit inducing awful in terms of how it decides on how to layout keycap legends in the UI since it makes a lot of assumptions that fall apart when you want to change the labeling to represent a layout with different names for the editing cluster keys or other symbols shifted on top of the number row.
No fucking wonder they only show keyboards as-if-it-was-US-layout.
Which is kinda uh unnecessarily limited and also leads to people asking how to configure keys for stuff like umlauts or é or Ñ.
The world needs someone to work on that and make VIA accept it, and I don't feel like that should be me, for lack of TS/React SPA stuff experience ...

Unless you've got a paid support contract that's being neglected, or there's a grave concern, it's inappropriate to escalate issues to massively public forums.
Maintainers and the staffers and volunteers at foundations are already overworked.
Don't make it harder for them to address your issue by ALSO making them waste time firefighting in public.

Two PRs in the pipeline for the next release: one brings support for Transitions, to be notified of RSC loading states on non-shallow query updates, the other was an experiment on passing parsed search params down to nested server components for server-side type safety.
The first one needs a bit more validation work (tests and tighter type definitions), but the second one is kind of DOA.

Free as in speech / beer is one of these things I keep having to look up again and again. I find it a terrible explanation and much prefer libre/gratis.
I don't know why, maybe because there's a lot of nuance involved with freedom of speech, and there's always someone who's paying for it (such as the 'if you are not paying, you are the product' kind of things).

In elementary OS, we added support for "applets", which really is just a bit of unique handling of something that already existed: keep-below. elementary OS treats windows requesting this behavior specially in a few ways...
Currently I just need to find out what went wrong and see how I can make OS/1337 go brrrrrr.

I've started testing the (hidden) light style in GNOME Shell, and I figured out the main thing that bothers me. This first version is more like an inverted style than following the existing GNOME/Adwaita conventions for raised elements.

Let's say the Mastodon team call it quits, for whatever reason. Will the network die? No.
Again, Mastodon is just one of many fediverse software. You can just move to a new server or instance of your choice.
Secondly, the Mastodon source code is #FLOSS / #FOSS (or #OpenSource). In fact, there are already a lot of forks of Mastodon, adding other features that are not found in the mainline Mastodon code.
And the servers/instances running Mastodon? They won't die just because the Mastodon team called it quits. They'll just find a Mastodon fork and move to it. Or, start their own.
3. If you're adventurous, you can run your own solo or family instance/server. Or maybe a public server that is invite-only.

#BlueSky? Yes, they do offer federation (a.k.a. interoperability) but the protocol they are using is not a WebStandard, they started their own and so far have no plans to support the webstandard ActivityPub protocol.
In fact, right now, federation with BlueSky is turned-off. They are not yet concentrating on it.
However, once they do, I personally would not be surprised if the generous Fediverse server/instance hosts start to setup their own federated BlueSky server/instance, which in turn will definitely help grow the BlueSky network.
And who knows? Maybe BlueSky will implement the ActivityPub protocol and join the Fediverse network? If this happens, then it becomes a matter of choice. Which UI and UX and features do you like?
But, until that happens, in my opinion, staying in the Fediverse is your best bet.
