#FOSSY
Hm. Need to catch #FOSSY conference organizers. Their conference schedule does not have links to neither slides nor videos.
I have page listing all videos from FOSDEM conference.
Recently FOSSY released videos from their conference. Debconf done by Debian project also publishes talks in video form.
So I got an idea: make a page which would list videos from conferences in a searchable table. Like my FOSDEM one does.
Makes sense?

My talk from #FOSSY23 has been uploaded! It's an introduction and overview of the #XMPP protocol targeted at technically minded folks with no experience of the protocol or realtime communication. #FOSSY https://archive.org/details/fossy2023_XMPP_Introduction_and_Overview
The video of my #FOSSY talk "Nature Adventures with Open Source" is up: https://archive.org/details/fossy2023_Nature_adventures_with_FOSS

@dentangle https://archive.org/search?query=subject%3A%22fossy2023%22 is where they've all ended up. I dropped into the #FOSSY chat room to ask if there's a plan to add licences and author info this afternoon, but am yet to hear back.
@conservancy
I discovered the term while watching these two #FOSSY talks:
"Students Favor Open Source, but Don’t Really Understand It" (https://archive.org/details/fossy2023_Students_Favor_Open_Source_but) and "Improving Diversity in Computing by Teaching Humanitarian Free and Open Source" (https://archive.org/details/fossy2023_Improving_Diversity_in_Computi)

@ossguy gave a talk called "My XMPP Past, Present, and Future." I've been waiting to watch this for months! #FreeSoftware #XMPP #FOSSY #FOSSY2023 #Snikket #JMP https://archive.org/details/fossy2023_My_XMPP_Past_Present_and_Futur
A little birdie tells me that #FOSSY videos are being uploaded as we* Toot!
\* Not the royal we.
(The asterisk gave me a bullet, so here I am naively trying to escape it. And it worked!)
I made a category for FOSSY on Wikimedia Commons and added 19 photos.
If you've got any photos from FOSSY you can upload them and add them to the category.

Thanks also to #NBPy for facilitating a great conference, #FOSSY @conservancy for also having me talk, and @ekulbyrnes for devising this ridiculous #ScoutHack idea!
There are big challenges facing the #opensource software community when it comes to AI. At #FOSSY in Portland, a group convened to answer the question, “What does Open Source mean in an AI world?”

@geerlingguy @mesebrec It really was! I’d add SCaLE to the list - and one day I’d like to go to Flock. One great thing about #FOSSY this year was the mask mandate and how seriously people took health and safety. Like I keep saying it would be great to see other community conferences follow suit.
My Airbnb host showed me his car collection. He is restoring a 1959 Airstream caravan.

Whoever was at the table chatting about Foundation before the closing remarks for #FOSSY , I really need to sit down with you all again and talk about that first episode of Season 2. 😳
@linux_mclinuxface Probably not the tool you're looking for, but another worth looking at is https://labhr.github.io/
#FOSSY
At #FOSSY, there was a lot of talk about acknowledging non-code contribution in open source.
I thought I snapped a picture of the slide, but there was some GitHub tool that allowed for counting this type of contribution. My fuzzy recollection was that it consisted of a big array of emojis?
Does anyone recall that tool? I can't even place which talk it was in, but I think it was on the community track.
Otherwise, I guess I'll wait until the videos come out.
The video from the RHEL panel at #FOSSY was posted. Worth a watch.

It was truly wonderful to have a reason to be in #PDX in July once again! Hearing the latest in #FOSS, and once again seeing old friends (and new) was a delight. Thanks for #FOSSY, @conservancy! I can’t wait to come back next time.
Why Open Sourcing your Stack Means More Customers and Better Software
While many make the case that open source is an ethical obligation, there is also a financial incentive to open your source code. But how can you take the step onto the waters?
I'd like to invite people to subscribe to my Medium blog. Over halfway to 100 subscribers. 🥳 Once I hit 100 I can earn commission on my articles!

who do I know that knows postmarketos people? I'd really like to see a libre phone track or talks ether at #fossy or #linuxappsummit - maybe invite some sugar labs people talk about grid networks etc.
What would be really really really cool is if we gave out recycled phones as comms running free software and interacted via that in a social kind of way.
I am blushing.
"The most thought-provoking talk I attended was “FOSS in World Affairs” by Delib. This talk deconstructed the philosophy of open source until it could be applied more broadly to larger social issues such as abuses of capitalism and the breakdown of social contracts. It generated a ton of discussion, including talk about how a corporation could be completely open-sourced, in a way that would welcome both collaboration and competition."

From the CNCF DevStats project: a list of 76 GitHub bots that have interacted with CNCF project repositories https://github.com/cncf/devstats/blob/master/util_sql/only_bots.sql (H/T Sophia Vargas who referenced this in her #FOSSY talk https://2023.fossy.us/schedule/presentation/116/)
It had been 3 years since I attended a conference in person, the last being FOSDEM 2020 just before the pandemic and then last week's #fossy event.
I'd forgotten how much work goes into attending a conference: the sessions, my own presentations, meetings, staffing the booth/table, the hallway track, socials, etc.
Add to that the preconference planning, travel, and post-conference follow-ups, not to mention the everyday work that piled up while I was out.
I am pooped but happy to be back.
Do you want some more #FOSSY?
Some of us are meeting for food tonight at 6:30pm at Portland Mercado, 7238 Southeast Foster Road.
I’m exhausted, and missing @TheMartianLife, but it was glorious to see everyone in #PDX for #FOSSY again.
I don't envy those #FOSSY attendees who had to return to work today; I have absolutely *crashed* after the 3.5 days of socialising, paying attention to interesting and intellectually stimulating talks, and (perhaps quite significantly) cycling 35 minutes each way to the venue! 😴
Post #FOSSY reflection:
What's made this event much more than simply a "spiritual successor" to OSCON is that it centered individual participants, acknowledged and aligned to their shared values, and didn't try to exploit that participation.
A corporate-minded event could never pull that off.
And that's why as long as people can continue to band together to safely share with each other, it will continue to be a success, in whatever forms it evolves to over time to meet those needs.
🌳 🏆
As we’re all heading home from #FOSSY I wanted to share some special stickers - the “Hire Me” and “I’m Hiring” designed by the amazing @riecatnor . Truly hope they could spark some connections and get someone FOSSY hired!
