Difficile un'unica risposta ma per quello che posso osservare nella mia cerchia familiare, la cosa che accade spesso è che si accetta senza riserve la notizia appena letta senza porsi dei dubbi, delle domande e, soprattutto, non si approfondisce. Non si va mai a fondo.

We all make mistakes in life. One mistake I made was in voting for the man on the right in this picture, Dimitri Lascaris. He was running for leader of the Green Party of Canada at the time and was, I thought, an exciting eco-socialist option. He has always been anti-NATO and anti-USA hegemony, and that's fine. But now he has turned into a mouthpiece for Russian propaganda in Canada. He repeats the same words as Putin. Here he is, last week, speaking to the RT newschannel from Athens, Greece on the 'persecution' of pro-Russia journalists. I wonder how much he gets paid for towing Putin's line. Screw you Dimitri. In this #review we overview a range of scientific studies of using the "wisdom of crowds" to help social media platforms meet the misinformation challenge. We show that seemingly contradictory findings in the literature about crowd performance can be explained simply by different papers using analytic approaches. When analyzed in the same wall, all evidence suggests that crowd ratings are highly correlated with expert ratings. Connaître la notion d'astroturfing est essentiel pour faire preuve de vigilance en ligne, surtout sur les réseaux sociaux. Je ne comprends pas comment cette notion n'est pas déjà au cœur du débat public concernant la lutte contre la désinformation sur Internet.

C'est ce qui se passe tout le temps sur Twitter et Facebook, mais la technique date d'avant l'invention d'Internet et peut aussi passer par l'envoi orchestré de courriers (et désormais de mails) à des institutions, médias, etc.
La Manif pour tous y a abondamment recouru en son temps. Le scandale Facebook-Cambridge Analytica a montré que le vote en faveur du Brexit au Royaume-Uni a été fortement encouragé par ce type de technique. L'extrême droite joue dessus à fond. Ça ne m'étonnerait pas que les experts en import-export de paniques morales (contre les "wokes", contre les personnes trans...) soient également familiers de la notion.
La bonne nouvelle, c'est que, non, tout le monde ne devient pas subitement facho. Mais il reste vital d'informer les gens sur ces techniques et d'exiger des institutions qu'elles luttent efficacement contre : nos démocraties en dépendent.

BUT it seems like that claim isn't actually true - in a new paper we fail to replicate it in 5(!) times and also show that even the original data don't support the claim (because they look at overall sharing, not specifically at sharing of false claims). Bottom line: conservatives are more likely to share #misinformation, regardless of their level of #conscientiousness.
