#Fedora
Great news for remote desktop with #GNOME: according to my testing, I can confirm that Mutter 44.2, which is now landing in #Fedora 38's updates, makes #RDP work correctly again; the regression I had found in version 44.1 is indeed gone: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/2783
Currently trying to learn if #Fedora #Silverblue would pose too much hassle for everyday computing tasks right now. If it does… then heck, it’s Arch time.
Man, I finally figured out how to properly have a LAMP stack setup on #fedora #silverblue
I really wish there were better resources on this so I didn't feel like I was just bashing my head against a wall for ages, but I'm happy to finally have it working
Maybe I should write a guide somewhere for others
I didn't know you could easily install the Ubuntu Yaru theme on #Fedora. Here it's the Prussian Green accent colour in light mode.
sudo dnf install yaru-theme
You can also add it to LibreOffice if you want : https://github.com/ubuntu/libreoffice-style-yaru-fullcolor/releases/tag/2023-03-31

What I did recently in #Fedora:
- improved the notifications that FMN sends out on git pushed in Pagure (including for packages)
- worked on the fedora-messaging plugin in Koji, which was is a pretty sorry state (no tests! 😮 )
- improved the notifications that FMN sends out on Koji builds.
To summarize, I tried to make FMN's notifications more useful. Hopfully I'll deploy that work next week.

We've stumbled into a cool pattern with https://ublue.it. So let's say you wanted to, add custom PWAs to gnome-software center, or a cool set of wallpapers for GNOME.
If I want to setup cool rotating monthly wallpapers with day/night cycles, I'd have PR that wallpapers.xml file, figure it out the settings, and add the files to the right directory. But that's annoying.
So, yeah, back to "perfect" #Fedora
gnome-shell was eating RAM like a monster on Ubuntu.
Gnome Software takes care of all updates in Fedora, no need to have an extra tool, or go to the Terminal to find other updates.
Flatpak apps are better on desktop, even if Snap in 23.04 are very fast. Don't believe people who used it 3 years ago.
I left #Ubuntu, but I installed the great looking Yaru GTK & Gnome Shell theme on Fedora. And I very much liked that Prussian green accent colour.
Just upgraded to Fedora Silverblue 38 and loving it! 💙 The streamlined workflow and container-based system make managing my software a breeze. #FedoraSilverblue #linuxlove #fedora

Saw @gamingonlinux showing off #PrideFetch on #Fedora but I noticed it wasn't cross platform, errors out on Windows. Fixed!

#foss people out there, what #linux distro do you use and why? Please note, this is not a distro bashing conversation. Rather, it's curiosity about other opinions and learning.
I've used #ubuntu #kubuntu or #kdeneon as daily driver for the past 14 years. Whilst I like neon, it doesn't play very nicely with Nvidia. Yes, I'm fully aware you can get it to work, but it's a pain in the ass and regularly breaks shortly after getting things somewhat working. At least that's my experience.
About ten years ago, I had a brief flirtation with #opensuse and the relationship ended badly. I still have a little trauma from that. I'm pretty sure it was all my fault, but never could figure out what I did wrong.
I've been very unimpressed with the direction that Canonical is taking and wanted to try something new. I tried an Arch based distro last autumn and really found the community too caustic to new people joining. Not to mention, I saw a lot fascist views inserted into comments and replies to other users. That was dropped quickly.
After New Year's, I decided to get crazy and installed #fedora. 😅 I know, I know, not really a big leap into the unknown, but I've never tried it before. I've been using it for almost 6 months now and it's ok. I don't like it and I don't dislike it. My biggest issue is that Xorg seems broken (and I cannot figure out why) and I can only use Wayland to login. Wayland is just not quite there for my workflow.
Oh, I should also mention. I'm one of those #kdeplasma nut cases.
so I wasnt satisfied with the #lvm experience on #ubuntu; the only gui i could find was #kde partition manager, but it didnt even give me any advanced options like the physical arrangement or stripe settings.
tried #fedora but the installer was slow and it crashed. so now i'm trying #opensuse, and I decided to try #raid 0 instead of lvm. I've done this before so maybe it'll work again...

How To Dual Boot #Fedora And #Windows :fedora: :windows:
https://ostechnix.com/dual-boot-fedora-and-windows/
Having a near hour long dnf update today has had me debating about rebasing this laptop to #Fedora #Silverblue.
Recently I've had a weird issue with #fedora 37 where the system completely freeze while using the scrolling wheel of my logitech M560 mouse.
And I have reproduced the issue on another laptop with the same mouse. Nothing in system logs.
I've switched to an older logitech mouse, no issue. Seems to be very specific to this model.

I give up on #Fedora #Silverblue. It seems to be great for a general-use desktop, but for someone like me, that needs to try and test random stuff every once in a while, it's just a time consuming machine. Sadly, will have to go back to standard install.
Don't get me wrong, the idea is great though, and it taught me how to work with Flatpak properly (at least that).
We've released 3.48.3, just one week after x.2. The previous released introduced an annoying regression in viewing HTML emails. It was promptly patched in Evolution on #Flathub and #Fedora, but decided to make a proper bug-fixing release, so that the fix can more easily get into other distributions.

Doxide packages now available for #Ubuntu #Debian #Fedora #openSUSE and #Mageia, plus Homebrew packages for #Mac https://doxide.org/installation/ #cpp #cplusplus

I keep getting tempted to move away from #Ubuntu just because of how often people on here complain about it. But then I use it, and am like, "What's the problem again?"
I'm not mad about snaps but I also don't really use them. Enabling flatpak and flathub took two commands. In day to day I've never noticed it being slow or anything. The experience of using Ubuntu (orange haired step child) doesn't really feel any different to something like #fedora (golden child). Are we just looking for something to be mad about? Am I thinking Ubuntu is "going downhill" just because everybody says it is?
After using #fedora for a couple years, Mac and WIndows seem like a confusing sideshow of stuff nobody wants.

When the ThinkPad Z16 was announced, I was intrigued. Finally a ThinkPad with a premium design and the ctrl key in the correct location. When the Fedora pre-load for it was announced, I knew it would be my next personal laptop.
Fast forward a year, and the Z16 with Fedora still isn't available in the U.S., despite being available in Europe for most of that time. I'm just standing here shouting "shut up and take my money".

Submitted a proposal to Flock about Gamerzilla. Unfortunately my passport expired and given how long it takes to get, I expect they won't take the risk of accepting me. #Fedora
💡 TIP: If you have another user set up on your Linux PC running xorg, here's a quick way to launch any graphical application from that other account on your GNOME desktop i.e. without switching or logging out:
xhost + && ssh otheruser@localhost DISPLAY=unix:0.0 signal-desktop
Also see the "pkexec" command

Red Hat certainly contributes greatly to Fedora in other ways, but direct maintenance of a specific package or set of packages is not a reliable indicator of Red Hat's overall investment. Fedora is going to be just fine.
I've been seeing lots of "the sky is falling" takes around Red Hat pulling out of LibreOffice RPM maintenance in Fedora. Here's a reality check: the vast majority of packages in Fedora are not maintained in an official capacity (i.e. part of their job) by Hatters. That's because only a small subset (~10%) of Fedora packages make it into RHEL. Currently RHEL 9 has 6,501 RPMs (from 2,393 SRPMs), while Fedora 38 has 60,807 RPMs (from 23,281 SRPMs).

@neil I looked at this as Samsung DEX is deprecated on macOS and I recently reactivated my 2010 era desktop and am running #Fedora and #KDE on it. The macOS client is buggy, but that's OK, it's beta.
I'm going to try the Linux client tomorrow. I don't see a plugin to show the whole phone screen and run apps like DEX does, but maybe I don't need that. For free software working across a wide variety of OS and platforms it seems pretty stonking at first glance.
