Aamuttaren Kalevala, Väinölän VapautusVirsi (The Kalevala of Dawn Goddess, The Liberation Hymn of Väinölä) is a poetry collection in progress. The two songs are written to the traditional Finnish Kalevala meter, and sung to a traditional Kalevala melody. Thus, they are essentially poems that are sung. In Finnish, we call them "runolaulu", which translates literally as "poem-song", but Wiktionary suggests "rune singing", in which "rune" refers to "epic poem".
A song about national unity and resilience.
The song commands the reborn Finnish heritage to be sung by children and the young to comfort the old and activate grown-ups, to unite and strengthen the different generations to face the dawn at hand in wisdom.

It’s been decades since the last time I listened to Nights of Iguana, which for a short period in mid-#80s was one of top candidates for ”conquering the world” with #Finnish #rock. Supposed to be the next Hanoi Rocks or smt. (Then there was Smack too, and bunch of others… but only Hanoi Rocks really ”made" it.)

Looks like with new #Covid surge we should be getting a booster, but absolutely no information about when it will be available from local #Finnish health board site.
Very concerning as I keep hearing "get your booster now" from people around the world while Finnish bureaucrats do their usual "wait and see" act.

Week is finally over. During week I had chance to have nice remote interviews with several good companies. It is positive to see that #Finnish HR and #recruitment culture is much more nicer than the stories I have read from the US recruitment culture.
I can honestly say that each #interview has concluded with smile on my face and it has always been nice to meet new people.
I am quite #introvert so this kind of people meeting is much more nicer to me than offices.

We'll study a word that may not be that common, but everybody with pets - especially dogs - will understand instinctively what the word means. The word is a verb, in English it would be "to nose", in Finnish: neniä, with the root word being "nenä" - a nose.
What do you nose with? Your nose of course! In Finnish "with my nose" is one word: nenineni.

This might be my most Finnish post yet. I want to tell you about something we absolutely love and are crazy about. Sauna.
Did you know there are about 3 million saunas in Finland? (The current population of Finland is 5,5 million). The last 5 of the 6 apartments I’ve lived in have had saunas in them and the one that did not, it had a sauna space you could go twice per week.
Sauna is something insanely calming and meditative. For us Finns sauna is not that spa-like ”steam room” they have in other countries, it’s all wood, rather small and hot, during summer we use birch leaves to whip each other with, we use tar as a herb and we just sit quietly in near 100 degrees Celsius (212 Fahrenheit). It’s supposed to be so hot you want to go out after ten minutes, breathe and relax. In the seventh floor I don’t have an icy lake but if I would I’d go right in, and then back to sauna… Sauna is not only to be enjoyed in the cottages, it can be enjoyed anywhere, any time, any way. It is a state of mind.
I love having sauna in my apartment. It is something otherworldly. It’s a luxury that I have without being a millionaire. It’s something that warms me during the winters and cools me down during the summers. Sauna is something I, like many other Finns, cherish and love. It stops time. It’s literally epic.
Sauna reminds me about the fact we are all human. We go there naked without thinking about it. Sauna cleanses the soul.
I wish everyone would have access to sauna multiple times per week like I do.

To my English followers, I sincerely apologise. Due to a human error, you may have inadvertently been exposed to content in the #Finnish language. I understand this has caused concern in the community, as even brief exposure to Finnish has been known to be dangerous.
The root cause for this was a mixup of the English and Finnish accounts, due to following some of the same people on both.
I have now done no additional precautions to prevent this happening in the future, and I look forward to our future fedi adventures. Surely I will not make this mistake a second time.

Am currently in Finland and just bought a bag that says "ei tartte päälle ajaa prkle". What I could find so far is that prkle stands for perkele and the whole thing is akin to a curse word or sentence but I don't understand the translation.
Does anyone here speak Finnish and able to explain?
I'm OK with good old ranting and cursing, I just want to make sure my bag is not insulting to the people who read it (or sexist / racist /…).

• The illative case (illatiivi), denoting ‘internal location + to’; e.g. taloon ‘into a house’.
Now, let me understand something (and correct me if I’m wrong)… Even though they mean basically the opposite of each other, their names are pronounced the same in English (/ɪˈleɪtɪv/) 🙃

Totally misunderstood the #Finnish phrase "lyödä luurin korvaan" which I thought meant a physical assault with a mobile phone rather than just hanging up on someone.
The #finnish #furindustry has provided the perfect environment for human and bird #infuenza viruses to merge, which has a huge potential to become the next #pandemic .
But the factually disappearing industry is complaining it is too significant for the country to be shut down.
Guess what is the gross profit per Finnish person? 10 €. 65 M€ in total.
I’d like to not see the next pandemic happen due to #greed but here we are not even close to that but this is pure insanity.

Tried a lot of programming languages in my childhood up until now, a non-chronological list of ones that stuck with me for one reason or another being: VB6 (that’s what I started on at 8 years old), #pascal (+ #freepascal and #delphi), #perl (+ #raku), #tcl #tcltk, #lisp (usually #scheme, on a good day #elisp #emacslisp and #commonlisp), #elixir, #php, #forth, #lua, #oberon, #modula-2, #cpp #c++, #ocaml, #fsharp, #smalltalk (+ #squeak #pharo #self), #ada, #powershell, #dart, #matlab, #rlang, #zig, #nim, #cobol and #julia. I don’t claim full proficiency in all of these, but I’m familiar enough with these (+ some others not mentioned here) that I could get along just fine with 2 weeks at most of studying and looking through cookbooks and examples). I’m flexible in learning new languages and technologies if needed.
I also do #sudoku and #math for fun (especially functional equations and number theory problems, sometimes calculus and geometric algebra). I am interested in #linguists, #conlangs (#lojban and #esperanto) and #nlp, contemporary (post-‘45, usually post-‘89 for me) history, #balkan history, lower-level stuff (I like to learn about how tools around me work, I’m most interested in #compilers, #emulators and #microcontrollers), #typography and #latex, #linux + #bsd, #msdos, #amiga, #oberon, #plan9, #philosophy, #astronomy (especially in a worldbuilding context) and #philosophy, along with other less notable interests.
I engage in #politics relatively often irl, although I’m not inserting it in absolutely every scenario in my life. As I mentioned, I’m a #leftist and #progressive (or… um… #woke) (Nazis and fascists can have a merry fuck off, DNI with me). I am also a spiritual person, a #deist (if you really want to put it that way, an agnostic, although it’s not quite true) and I find #astrology and #tarot interesting (I’ll let you guess my moon and ascendant, let’s see how close you are).
With that being said, I hope I’m welcome here, you can pick your subset of things that interest you from this list, you have plenty of options. :P Quite a bit longer than last time, but oh well…
