Nachdem @Flipboard inzwischen #Mastodon, #Pixelfed und #Bluesky unterstützt, habe ich kurz gezuckt mir die iOS App näher anzusehen. Dann aber festgestellt, dass (lt. Bewertungen) massig Werbung im Feed angezeigt wird und es wohl keine In-App Käufe gibt. Nutzt wer #Flipboard und kann es empfehlen?

I haven't used #Flipboard in years, but if the ancient screengrabs on in the Play Store are anything to go by (Google+ appears in one of them! And the nav controls on the Android tablet are like 10 years old!), along with all the recent neg reviews... it doesn't tell me they're pouring much effort into the app.

These beta API integrations provide an early glimpse into the interoperability possible on the social web as more services are built by developers. The next step is to integrate at the protocol level via #ActivityPub so that users of #Mastodon, @Pixelfed and #Flipboard can seamlessly follow and engage with each other.

While Bluesky does not yet use ActivityPub, they seem very committed to federation so I hope there will eventually be a way to resolve this.

answer: not very hard as long as admins keep leaving their federated timelines open

Both #Medium & #Flipboard’s instance communities are far more active, but the leaders of each took the time to know the Fediverse culture (well, rather #Mastodon culture).

Twitter keeps alienating its biggest fans, but I still don't see Mastodon taking its place — the platform is too inaccessible for most people (even if it's ultimately pretty simple to use).

After 13 years, #Twitter has made certain you won't be able to see a tweet on #Flipboard ever again.

Today Twitter turned off their API integration without regard for Twitter users who enjoyed seeing tweets on their Flipboard.

While Twitter is enabling payment for some API access, the approach they've taken is prohibitively expensive, unreliable and frankly untrustworthy. I can't imagine us or anyone else ever relying on Twitter again for anything.

Also yes Mastodon/Fediverse numbers at just south of 2 million monthly active users is far below Twitter's current 560 Million MAU.

But what is key is this is the first decentralized network of this type that has shown it CAN scale up to the millions. There is a clear line of site from here to 10 Million, then to 50 Million etc, esp if other entries like #Tumblr, #Medium #Flipboard integrate further.

Wow, this feels kind of exciting!
