A Wild Petunia! PlantNet isn't sure if it's a "Hairyflower" petunia or a "Fringe-Leaf". A bright purple blossoms sits atop a little weed with fuzzy buds and leaves.

"Cop Car" Moth
Rio Grande National Forest, CO

Well, that's what a local called it—Gnophaelia vermiculata if you want to be all scientific about it. The flower is Black-tipped Ragwort. Found at about 10K feet elevation. I sometimes forget how important moths are to pollination.

African Violet # 3

Here's another one, from a bit of a different angle. I used an old 50 mm lens on 39 mm of extension again, and stacked 15 frames, concentrating on the central part of the flower only. For scale, these flowers are about the size of a quarter.

African Violet # 1

This is another focus-stack--one of the first I ever did so I don't remember all the parameters, except that it was done with a Kiron 105mm macro lens, which was a heavy, awkward beast of a lens to use. There were probably 20-30 images taken and stacked. A nearby window was used for lighting.

The Angel's Trumpet or Brugmansia is a tropical, exotic shrub that I put outside in the spring and bring inside in the winter. The large, pendulous shaped flowers are most fragrant in the evening when they attract the pollinating moths. When the shrub is in full bloom the display is outstanding.

An old (vaguely decrepit) ocre wall, a window with green shutters nearly shut against heat, the tiniest of (dirty) white stucco planter with pink geraniums crawling down. The window (and geranium) are somewhat off centre to the rigth. A cable can be seen coming out of the window to the left, probably meant to hang laundry out.

Sacred Datura along the Recreation Trail

From earlier this week along the trail I regularly ride. The trail in this section is along the top of the east side Rio Grande levee. The river is beyond the large cottonwoods on the right, the bosque. Most years there are easily a dozen of these lovely Sacred Datura plants; this is the only one thriving this season. Perhaps due to lack of rain this summer. The grasses are dry and brown. I'm lucky that I can ride here from my home.
