Well, I've certainly never heard this album sound nearly this good. (One nit - cymbals.)
Zappa is obviously an acquired taste, and while this was popular back in the day, I'm not sure it's the best place to start - think Apostrophe probably is. But, wow these guys can *play*. And Zappa can be funny, in a reactionary/juvenile way. Musically, though...always on point.

I was a student at Antioch College in Yellow Springs, OH when I saw him play in Dayton. This was around the time of Bongo Fury (no Beefheart). I have photos of the rest of the band but the scans need some cleaning up.

Listened to this today and honestly I gotta get a copy of it at the very least because it contains interesting interviews with someone who talks about growing up during WW2 (JCB talks about living in a cancer cluster near an atomic bomb testing site 👀) and who brings up some less savory things Frank Zappa/The Mothers dealt with that ZFT tries to clean up in posterity.
