#LongRead here from McKinsey - but one that I think anyone interested in #Cities, #Urbanism, #FutureOfWork and generally how humans live will find interesting.

I haven't finished all of it. But I was inspired to jump in by this bit from the exec summar:

"Cities and buildings can adapt and thrive by taking hybrid approaches themselves. Priorities might include developing #mixedUse #neighborhoods, constructing more adaptable buildings, and designing multiuse #office and #retail space."

The #Hybrid space is something that I've been passionate about for a long time. Mono-culture (work, play, housing) can lead to stagnation and, frankly, boring places.

Mix it up a bit! Give humans at work somewhere for a nice walk and a coffee. Give humans at home somewhere to cycle and plug in a laptop. Give humans at play... Well, more play.

Long/short for me - make places for humans, not for mono-use... Am looking forward to reading the rest of this!

@nancybaym has edited an issue of the Journal of Computer-mediated Communication about the future of work. Looks excellent. I just read one article by Keppler & Leonardi that shows that enterprise conversational networks (e.g., Slack) build the sort of intimacy people need to get over their intimidation about asking about complex knowledge. Good point, good confirmation.

Apple Vision Pro as the future home office? Why not?

You work from home. You're alone. You need a big screen. You don't want to spend too much room setting up for your work.

Would you be able to get all your work done using a Vision Pro? Maybe not. But then it's easy to step out of your office. Just remove the goggles.

Same goes with work-life balance: Just remove the goggles.
