"AI actors developing #AI systems in countries which have established or adopted ethical standards on AI should respect these standards when exporting these products, developing or applying their AI systems in countries where such standards may not exist...".

If #GDPR is any indication, this won't happen. It will only happen if countries develop their own legislation.

The #GDPR is five years old. What have we learned? https://www.infosecurity-magazine.com/news-features/gdpr-trends-fifth-anniversary/ On balance, I’m for it. It could be implemented better, but I like a world with it better than a world without it. For companies, it does require a little effort, but not much if you’re not actively being evil. #privacy

After 6 months of analysis of the massive dataleak at #Tesla in Europe two topics emerge:

1) a possible failure to comply with data protection rules #GDPR. If such a violation was proved, Tesla could be fined up to 3.26 billion euros....

2) the data "paints the picture of an electric car pioneer that seems to have far greater technological problems than previously known". For example, with its "#Autopilot".

Nuanced take by Carey Lening @privacat on the impact of the fine against Meta Ireland (and on Schrems II and #GDPR rules on international data transfers more generally): while the fine is unsurprising, there's no realistic way out of that situation. Ignore/misunderstand/play dumb about #GDPR all you want at your own peril.

Just because US regulators are extremely slow at understanding and addressing consumer privacy doesn't mean that the EU is. This whole issue stems from the fact that #PrivacyShield wasn't good enough to cover GDPR requirements, and as that was ruled inadequate by the EU, companies like META essentially chose to put their heads in the sand instead of changing their processes and procedures to meet GDPR, and it finally hurt them. We can all but guarantee the META will appeal this, though their success is by no means guaranteed.

This could have huge repercussions across the business-to-consumer social media space, as well as a lot of other industries.
