Underneath all of the brilliant works of Michelangelo, DaVinci, Donatello, Raphael, and the rest of the Old Masters, are simple gestures that can be communicated with a stick figure.
You may not be able to draw or paint like them (YET), but you CAN draw a stick figure. So use that as your basic tool to analyze your favorite works of art and understand what makes them tick.

Cheesy take maybe. But if you - for any reason it might be - cannot get to drawing, painting etc. take some rounds of 30sec gesture drawings. Warming up your motoric system and also gives you an instant kickstart plus a feeling of improvements, as you can compare your ugly start with the last sketches. Wich will 100% always be better then the first ones 🤪 pinky promise
Allow yourself to create the most horrendous sketches, it’s very funny sometimes

Today's piece is a terrible sketch of a model. But I've promised to share my failures with you all. #gesturedrawing
Here is what's wrong:
- The top half of the body is positioned wrong and the weight doesn't fall evenly on the hands.
- The back leg is way to large to be believable with the thin one in front.
- I can't draw arms to save my life. Let's not go into the criticisms here...
Here's a better one. The arms have flow, there's movement, it looks organic yet unfinished. #gesturedrawing
