@arstechnica This is why I’ll never own a #GooglePixel again. I owned the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 3 and both had issues.
The Pixel 2 had known screen issues that Google refused to acknowledge, let alone fix.
The Pixel 3 was incapable of multitasking reliably. I couldn’t play a podcast and use my exercise app at the same time. The phone eventually overheated and died on a long car trip, leaving me stranded without a decent phone.
Never again.

I was curious to see how the camera on the Pixel 8 Pro compared to my Fujifilm X-S10 with its 16-80 mm. Fujinon lens. I compared similar images between the two and posted the results on my blog.

Good morning all!
I'm desperate and in need of assistance.
My wife's Pixel 5a has decided that the screen isn't going to display anything, and likely isn't responding to touch.
I can get the device into fastboot and it's accessible through that command prompt, but I can't figure out how to mount via usb. I need to get photos and such off this device.
I cannot get the device while booted normally to mount as a USB drive on my computer.
Is there a way that I can't seem to find through searches that can get me access to the data partition?
Yesterday, the Emergency SOS on my Google Pixel 7 triggered itself.
I was physically safe but quite miserable, sitting at my dining room table, head in my hands, phone on the table. My phone suddenly started buzzing, my spouse came pounding down the stairs, and then my phone battery died. I assured my spouse I was physically fine and went back to feeling miserable.
Meanwhile, two of my siblings were frantically trying to reach me but my phone was dead!

I've finally entered the fifth era of my smartphone ownership as my trusty Pixel 2 has this week been replaced with a Pixel 7a. The Pixel 2 gave stellar service over 5 years and still performs well. Unfortunately, I can now reliably one shot kill the phone by taking a photo with the battery below about 60%... The 7a is a bit bigger than I'd like but does feel a bit faster. Does anyone know of a good #privacy respecting #ParentalControl app for #Android? I'm trying to convince a friend to get a #Pixel with #GrapheneOS as their kids next phone but they won't do it unless it let's them control certain things.
They're used to #iOS where apparently their kid can request to download an app and they can remotely allow the installation. They can also add screen time beyond the original set limit of the kids requests it.
Google Pixel with Android 14 does not let you rotate your screen upside down. 🙄
The problem is my charger port is at the bottom and when using my phone while plugged in, it would be better to have the plug on top.
The simple solution would be to enable screen rotation. Right? 🤔
Well, it will rotate left, right, and back upright, but if you flip your phone so the charger port is above, your screen will not rotate. 🙄

@Eloquent_Vogon @GrapheneOS pretty sure it's #GooglePixel exclusive and those phone do not have the most assuring history. They even fail to connect to emergency services sometimes which is very concerning. Also read reports of overheating and poor battery life.
The #Fairphone is the closest thing I found to what I am searching for, but it seems to have troubles with performance/overheating and I am pretty sure it is not as secure as a #Google #Pixel or #SamsungGalaxy.

Okay, because my wife has a Pixel 5 and it's getting its last guaranteed OS update today (the last gen without Google Tensor silicon!), I'm seriously considering trading it in for a Pixel 8, and having her upgrade to my perfectly-functional Pixel 7.
$300 trade-in is not bad for a three-year-old device that I think we got for around $500 in the first place.
Then we're set for four more years of OS updates for the 7, which is nice.

Kind of ironic, but de-googling works, price is not to high, especially if you don't go for the latest generation or get one second hand.

@aral I'd like to present an alternative for you. Consider the device you are currently using. It is likely manufactured with unethical labor practices and materials which fund conflict. If this does not stop you from using it, then you have fallen in the fight #fairphone is fighting.
