In fairness, all political promises are subject to the understanding that the reason we have a government is not to elect a set of promises (which could be simply implemented as static law if that was all that was required), but to elect a set of decision-makers with particular values.

I'm not a big fan of Biden and the centrists. I prefer a progressive politics. I'd like a focus on Climate and a lot stronger action on securing Democracy at home.

But, that said, I think on the issue of the Ukraine, he is correctly responding to the fact that Russia's aggression, left unchecked, is a threat to the world. Money so far spent seems to have had very good effect with minimal risk to US lives and more generally the lives of many free societies. Criticize the expenditure if you like (I think I will not at this point do so, even though in general I would prefer less military spending), but I think it's not really fair to criticize it as either hypocritical or a breach of promise.

Not even to mention it's an act of Congress, not of Biden. But no matter who does it, I think it will be a mistake if the new House blocks future such expenditures. Russia is being pushed back, and cutting funding will undo that.

If Republicans succeed in "cutting spending" they'll be able to campaign on the huge downturn in the economy under Biden's last 2 years. Also on how under Biden government hasn't been making people's lives better.
