🦞Dear Friends using Firefox,
I was advised to use #Firefox web, it is a bit more #secure than the ubiquitous data brokers #google based #browsers. It was good advice, so I swapped from #Brave and #Seamonkey. Just used it to synch between my apple phone and #Linux running #laptop. Ooh, I am so #techy! Not techy at all, in fact. It will take me at least a day to stop swearing at the mobile phone, with its tiny screen and direct leaks to Apple Core.😤

Talking of #apple who knows how to make real #Swiss #Muesli? It starts with a #grated apple and #lemon juice. Soaked with #oats overnight AND then in the #morning #seasonal #fruits and #nuts, #cream (yes cream) or #greek #yougurt are added - It is so much better than the bird cage droppings in cardboard that are availble in some regions. Muesli is a #meal, a #pudding a #shared #feast

#Sunak accuses #Greek PM of ‘grandstanding’ over Parthenon #marbles

Sunak’s words will do little to heal the rift between the two countries caused by his last-minute decision to cancel the bilateral meeting that was due to take place on Tuesday afternoon.

#Sunak's appalling behaviour re #Greek PM suggests more pandering 2 the extreme nationalism of this Tory party. Such behaviour divides human beings, it shows the depths the UK has plumbed. Sunak does NOT speak 4 British people. https://tinyurl.com/bdfmu2pw #RejoinEU #ToryCorruption

Rishi Sunak loses his marbles™ Politico: Who knew, but the #UK PM clearly has a sensitive soul that cleaves to the marble representations by #Greek sculptor Phidias to decorate the 2,500-year-old #Parthenon temple. Unless, it’s all about #politics https://www.rashmee.com/rishi-sunak-loses-his-marbles-politico/

#Postmodernism is an intellectual stance or mode of discourse characterized by skepticism toward the "grand narratives" of modernism; rejection of epistemic (scientific) certainty or the stability of meaning; and sensitivity to the role of ideology in maintaining political power

Latin tendō (“stretch, extend”)

From Proto-Italic *tendō, from Proto-Indo-European *tend-, extension of Proto-Indo-European *ten- (“to stretch, draw”). Sihler traces the /d/ back to the ordinary present suffix -ye in position after *n (cf. offendō, dēfendō from *gʷʰen-ye-). Cognates include Ancient Greek τείνω (teínō), Sanskrit तनोति (tanóti) and Old English þennan.

It's great to find morphology mashups, partially formed according to one language's rules and partially according to another language's rules.

Reading a #Greek text of the early #Ottoman period, I saw Καραμανλῆδες.

The first part of the word is Karamanlı, #Turkish for "of Karaman." The ending is the Greek third declension nominative plural for a dental stem. (Why? I don't know.)

On the next page I see Ὀτμανλίδες, the same form for "Ottomans."

New #Greek #law seems completely crazy: as self-employed, you're not allowed to make less than $12k/per year. If you make less, you will still be taxed as if you earned $12k, unless you dissolve your business. As an #artist, earning only a small amount per year, as a hobby+ type of activity, this law makes no sense to me. In fact, being an artist in #Greece would be stupid. I've noticed that #Europe keeps voting such stupid laws that they end up head-slapping themselves after a few months. D'oh.

I wish #English speakers stop using the word "doula". It means "slave" in its original #Greek definition. As a Greek, I cringe every time I hear it or see it written. It's just too strong of a word for us, because it's still used in modern Greek to signify women who have had bad marriages or they're otherwise in "#slavery" work or life conditions. Just use the word "helper" instead. Doula is a bad word to use to simply mean that someone helps you out.

And at least Hephaestus is a god when Hera chucks him off a mountain. This is not the case for Heracles when Hera discovers her husband has had yet another child with a mortal woman. She doesn't throw him from the lofty peaks of Olympus. But, according to the second-century mythographer Pseudo-Apollodorus, she does send two giant snakes to his bed to kill him when he is eight months old. Her plan is foiled when Heracles strangles the snakes instead: he is truly his father's son. This anecdote is often presented as an archetypal example of Hera's limitless malevolence. So it's worth noting that Pseudo-Apollodorus offers a quick alternative. In one version of the story, he says, it isn't Hera who sends the snakes. It's Amphitryon, Heracles' stepfather. I wonder if this caveat hints at why the other gods might have pleaded with Hephaestus to free the foul-tempered goddess. If Hera is at large, you can behave as badly as you like, and someone will probably blame her instead.

I entered the #keto #euphoria state today. That's a feeling some people get while on keto. For me, it makes me feel how I was feeling when I was 10 years old, and was running on the fields in my #Greek village. It's not nostalgia, where you simply remember the feeling, it's instead the exact same feeling: peaceful coherence with earthly life. Keto euphoria is the best thing about the ketogenic diet IMHO.

Did you know that the Minotaur from #Greek #Mythology is connected to a real #palace?

Knossos was the main palace of the Minoans, a people located in #Crete, #Greece during the #BronzeAge.

The labyrinthine palace had many decorative double axes (”labryses”) on the walls.

The Labrys was likely used to sacrifice #bulls, which played a big part in Minoan #religion.

In turn, the Minoans were possibly influenced by the #Ancient #Egyptians & their #sun #god Ra, who rides a heavenly cow.

This photo shows a Labrys.

We see a small axe with two heads. Each head is opposite the other and connected by a middle section attached to the axe staff.

The ace heads are decorated with rounded lines of four, and then some more lines diagonally, tilted to the left.

The axe has a short staff, with a round "ear" in the end, likely to be hung up on a hook. The length is so short that it would have been easily holdable by anyone.

The material of the artifact looks like gold or shiny brass.
This is a photo of a reconstructed part of the palace of Knossos in Crete.

We see a brick wall, with bricks of uneven size, laid to connect nicely. The wall is perhaps 3 metres in height. it lies atop another level.

The wall had a ceiling with heavy smooth rocks. The front, facing us, as two straight thick lines and perfectly round ornamental dot-lines in between.

Then there are three massive pillars (and a fourth off to the side that is broken). The pillars are bright red, with black and yellow accents at the top and bottom.

They protect a painted section of the brick wall. The section shows a fiery red bull, mid-run, with large gold horns. The background is a bright blue sky and some green trees.
