"'For over six years, #Greenpeace USA has been fighting lawsuits brought by Energy Transfer over the Indigenous- led resistance movement at #StandingRock. This type of legal #bullying, known as #StrategicLawsuitsAgainstPublicParticipation, is part of the #corporate playbook to #silence and #intimidate #DissentingVoices who lack the financial means to fight these lawsuits.
"Energy Transfer is now attempting to expand this playbook by targeting Indigenous and environmental justice activists through the use of third-party subpoenas. #Nigeria to grow new potato varieties that are genetically engineered to be resistant to diseases:[^1]
Preliminary results from the three locations, namely Kuru and Bokkos in Plateau State and Kusuku in Taraba State, show that the biotech potatoes had a uniform yield advantage of over 300% when compared to the best-performing variety in the country when no fungicide was applied.
This means higher yield with less synthetic pesticides and fungicides, and thus less pollution to soil and water.
Organisations such as #Greenpeace have been for decades lobbying #Africa governments to ban genetically engineered plants based on fake research from scientists they sponsored, which ended in numerous scandals and retractions.[^2][^3] In 2001-2002 as #Zambia and #Zimbabwe were suffering from famines, Greenpeace activists convinced their governments to reject corn supplied by US as humanitarian help on the grounds that it was “poisoned by GMO”.[^4]
It took nearly two decades for most African governments to finally kick out the “environmental” scammers. Now Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria and other African countries gradually switched to pest and drought resistant crops for the benefit of their people and environment.[^5]

Ce matin, des activistes de Greenpeace France ont déversé 2 tonnes de lisier devant le ministère de l’Agriculture. Le but de cette action : dénoncer l’élevage industriel qui pousse à surproduire toujours plus de viande sans se soucier des nombreuses conséquences environnementales.
Vous pouvez vous aussi prendre part et prolonger cette action en interpellant le ministre de l’Agriculture.
Après être resté·es une bonne partie de la matinée devant l’entrée du ministère de l’Agriculture, les activistes ont été délogé·es par les forces de l’ordre. Onze ont été placé·es en garde à vue. Ils et elles étaient mobilisé·es ce matin pour alerter sur une situation qui nous concerne toutes et tous, et exiger que le gouvernement agisse contre le fléau de l’industrialisation de l’élevage.
Plus aucune ferme-usine ne doit être construite ou agrandie sur notre territoire.

I will also point out that I am #disabled #workingPoor who already contributes embarrassingly small donations to #greenPeace, #NDP, #ConservationCouncil, #ExtinctionRebellion, #signalApp, and at least a half-dozen #independantJournalists. I gave up my vehicles. I reduce, reuse and recycle. Shell is now suing for over £2mn in damages, after court sanctioned negotiations broke down... because:
Shell said they'd reduce the claim if Greenpeace no longer directly protests at/on Shell facilities/ships;
Greenpeace responded they'd be willing to do that if Shell complied with a 2021 Dutch ruling requiring the to radically reduce emissions.
So, now Shell is back to court to try & silence Greenpeace!

"Fossil fuel companies have spent millions of dollars on lobbying and campaign donations to state lawmakers who sponsored anti-protest laws – which now shield about 60% of US gas and oil operations from protest and civil disobedience, according to a new report from Greenpeace USA.
"Eighteen states including #Montana, #Ohio, #Georgia, #Louisiana, #WestVirginia and the #Dakotas have enacted sweeping anti-protest laws which boost penalties for trespass near so-called critical infrastructure, that make it far riskier for communities to oppose pipelines and other fossil fuel projects that threaten their land, water and the global climate.
"Another four states have enacted narrower versions of the same law, but which could still be exploited to issue trumped-up charges against peaceful protesters. Many were based on a 'model bill' promoted by the industry-funded American Legislative Exchange Council (Alec).
"According to the report, nine of the top 10 companies that lobbied most for anti-protest bills since 2017 are fossil fuel companies, including US companies #ExxonMobil, #KochIndustries and #MarathonPetroleum, as well as Canadian companies #Enbridge and #TCEnergy (#TransCanada).
"In addition, 25 fossil fuel and energy companies have contributed more than $5m to state anti-protest bill sponsors in this timeframe, data from political finance trackers #OpenSecrets and #FollowTheMoney shows."

- they pushed for #nuclear phase-out forces the grid operators to replace the missing dispatchable capacity with fossil gas and then coal

International regulators are incapable of properly monitoring safety at the russian-occupied the nuclear power station, according to a critical dossier compiled by #Greenpeace that is being sent to western governments on Thursday.
They conclude the IAEA has too few inspectors at Europe’s biggest nuclear plant – four – and that there are too many restrictions placed on their access.

If you try and prohibit the types of protest that most moderate people see as "reasonable" and peaceful, the inevitable consequence is that protest will shift to types many would condemn.
This happens in any prohibition:
If you prohibit beer, people pivot to stronger liquor.
If you prohibit "mild" drugs, people will pivot to stronger drugs.
AND if you prohibit peaceful protest, then protest will become less peaceful.

"One thing is certain: in June 1988, when #NASA scientist #JamesHansen told a congressional hearing that the planet was already warming, #Exxon remained publicly convinced that the science was still controversial. Furthermore, experts agree that Exxon became a leader in campaigns of confusion. By 1989 the company had helped create the #GlobalClimateCoalition (disbanded in 2002) to question the scientific basis for concern about climate change. It also helped to prevent the #USA from signing the international treaty on climate known as the #KyotoProtocol in 1998 to control #GreenhouseGases . Exxon’s tactic not only worked on the U.S. but also stopped other countries, such as #China and #India, from signing the treaty. At that point, 'a lot of things unraveled,' Oreskes says.
"But experts are still piecing together Exxon’s misconception puzzle. Last summer the Union of Concerned Scientists released a complementary investigation to the one by InsideClimate News, known as the Climate Deception Dossiers (pdf). 'We included a memo of a coalition of fossil-fuel companies where they pledge basically to launch a big communications effort to sow doubt,' says union president Kenneth Kimmel. 'There’s even a quote in it that says something like ‘Victory will be achieved when the average person is uncertain about climate science.’ So it’s pretty stark.'
"Since then, Exxon has spent more than $30 million on #ThinkTanks that promote ClimateDenial, according to #Greenpeace. Although experts will never be able to quantify the damage Exxon’s misinformation has caused, 'one thing for certain is we’ve lost a lot of ground,' Kimmell says. Half of the greenhouse gas emissions in our atmosphere were released after 1988. 'I have to think if the fossil-fuel companies had been upfront about this and had been part of the solution instead of the problem, we would have made a lot of progress [today] instead of doubling our greenhouse gas emissions.'"
