Having never gamed much with #HDR enabled, due to me #gaming exclusively on #Linux and #SteamDeck, I wasn't sure exactly what to expect. The lighting is definitely better, but there's one thing I've noticed that I wasn't expecting. Colors look flatter and more natural. Turning HDR off in a game while on my living room TV makes certain colors look really blown out or something. Using HDR in certain games makes things look less "shiny" and a bit more realistic.

I already have some lights for bias purposes, but the sync box is $250 — not cheap. And the strip is another $200!
I use an #AppleTV 4k with 2x #HomePods for sound. Connected to a #Sony 65Z9F. That’s it. No cable, no gaming, no receiver.
Is this thing fun? Stupid? Does it play nicely with AppleTV? #HDR? #DolbyVision?

I've seen many incremental improvements to resolution, autofocus, etc., but I was stunned how much high dynamic range can transform photos, including thousands I already took. Android 14 natively supports "Ultra HDR" photography and viewing. I hope the state of HDR accelerates on desktop Linux, especially "SDR dimming," which means rendering non-HDR parts of your display normally while displaying HDR content in a window (e.g. a photo preview).
Virtually all new phones will support taking HDR photos—whether HEIC/HEIF on iPhone or JPG with HDR on Android. It would be good to view them as intended on our computers!

Okay, so that's interesting... my laptop automatically enables #HDR when I'm using my 65 inch TV as the primary monitor. Currently using #1080P mode aka 1920x1080 at 60 fps because it's best if I want to stream my screen using things like #YouTube or #Twitch but the TV is capable of going to #4K resolution aka 3840x2160 at 60 fps. Only issue with the current settings is I don't think Twitch supports HDR while YouTube does, but only when streaming using the #HLS protocol and not the #RTMPS protocol.
