Ira Winderman : NBA/Heat bottom line is cost analysis. You set a pricepoint for Gabe Vincent, Max Strus and if exceeded, you wish them well. Same with level of offer for Damian Lillard. Okay final stove design for today (I think). Again, these are heat sources for people in houseless or emergency situations who need to heat a tent or small area, need it to be cheap and made from easily scavenged materials and fuel, need it to last a good long while, and need it to not kill anyone.

So that said, Robert Murray-Smith (forgot the - last time sorry there) posted ANOTHER innovation (he's posted several, you should find and follow him on the tube [edit: YOUTUBE ffs do not stalk anyone via your local underground]), showing how to make a heater that goes out instantly if it's knocked over! I'm gonna try to make this one, I think.

Now, he's using Oasis flower foam as the wicking material, but I suspect you could use fiberglass, so I'll be trying that. He's also fashioning his own second larger ring out of metal strapping strip, but as he mentions you could just get the same thing by cutting the bottom out of a can that's slightly larger than your bottom can with the foam.

The important bits are the two pieces of fine steel mesh that attach to both those cans, which prevents the flame from passing through and is the part that lets the flame go out when those pieces are separated. I'm not clear on how he's securing that down but I know those screw down clamp rings like they use on large hoses will work to accomplish that.

So, 2 cans, some foam/fiberglass insulation, two pieces of fine stainless steel mesh, two ring clamps, some alcohol/fuel, and you're off and running.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZJie6KKB8A

Yes, I'm tagging this and didn't tag all the previous. I'm bad at hashtagging and driving interaction. Look through my recent post history to see other ideas for emergency heaters.

When/if you or your group make any, please take some non-doxxing pics or otherwise post your win! I need help encouraging more people to do this.

A rare Pacific volcano is among the reasons why 2023 is so hot. The Waiowa volcano erupted in 2022 and spewed ash and aerosols into the stratosphere, which can affect the climate and weather patterns. #ClimateDiary Today, I used for the first time the word "#heat #loneliness". During #heatwaves, most people stay at home as often as possible. Last Sunday I cancelled a folk dance event because I couldn't imagine to dance between walls at 34°C. When we meet at the museum we miss people who *are* lonely. Especially elder people can't stand the heat and even short travels. "Stay at #home and drink water" can become a loneliness trap for many. A family is not the norm. How will we deal with it?
