Anyone familiar with getting #PhilipsHue bridge and bulbs to sync without using the app? I hooked up the bridge to #HomeKit and I would really like to avoid using the Hue app to set up my lights, relying solely on HomeKit to do it instead. Boost for reach please, I can't find any solution online besides using the app and I think I can do it if I can tell the bulbs to pair with the bridge.

Getting my new house set up with Home Assistant after being on the Wyze ecosystem for a while. So far the Honeywell T9 thermostat is playing very nicely with Home Assistant. Next up will be the garage door opener and a new video doorbell.
I'd been very impressed with Wyze over the last few years, but the security breach they just had and their failure to adequately communicate about it soured me on their stuff.
Come on Eileen is a nice song. Now I am trying to figure out why it started playing on our bedroom homepods, at 03:00 last night. It must be part of some #homekit automation that I forgot about.

One of my Netatmo #HomeKit smoke alarms had it's battery die about 50% quicker than it should have done. What did they do? Give me free replacements of both of my smoke alarms. 👍 I don't get why you don't hear many people talking about their products. They're rock solid, no subscriptions and the support has always been excellent.

I just checked the iOS 16 documentation and that statement doesn’t appear in it, so it is new.
It explains a lot about why my cameras have always failed to only record Specific Motion as they’re set to do and instead just constantly record any motion (and would also send notifications for any motion, which I had to turn off because I was getting notifications every few minutes).
It would’ve been nice to know that from the start, and also how many Home Hubs are really needed.
I don't recall seeing this note in Apple’s documentation before about the motion analysis of HomeKit Secure Video cameras.
How many cameras can a single Home Hub analyse the video of simultaneously? One? Two?
Can an Apple TV analyse more simultaneously than a HomePod can? Is it documented anywhere?
It seems like a pretty important detail if you want motion notifications to work properly (which mine do not…).

It’d be nice to be able to restart the HomePod to see if that fixes it, but the Home app doesn’t allow you to do that remotely.
And I can’t just go over and physically turn it off because I’m in another country, which is the entire reason I bought these cameras in the first place.
I’ve got a #HomeKit automation that uses a motion detector to switch on some lights, but only when the light level is low. It’s been working except in the evenings which of course is when I actually want the thing to work.
Magically, this evening it worked actually perfectly.
TvOS update is my best guess, but it’s just weird.
iOS 17 is here, and Signals for HomeKit has some excellent new features to match!

Situation: there is a motion sensor in the bath that plays bird songs on a HomePod Mini when a motion is detected during the day. It stops when nobody is in the bath anymore and the lights turn off (different automation).
I want an automation that does prevent the HomePod from playing when it is already playing the moment a moment is detected.

i retract any previous statements about household lighting with the numerous #HomeKit-capable bulbs on the market.
#hue is totally worth it. their software can coordinate lighting better than anything you could possibly come up with in homebridge and whackamole. if you have any aspirations of elevating your ambiance and you are not currently a veteran of broadway stage lighting or programming lighting systems for lutron, you are in over your head already.

Today I did the first (in 7 years) factory reset of my Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Cleaner (1st gen). I was afraid of losing the statistics, but surprisingly everything survived. I just had to update the token in #Homebridge to have it back in #HomeKit.
Last night in the bathtub, our two-year-old was playing with his cars and pretending they were a train when they were all lined up. He started doing something else but eventually came back to the train thing and said, “Hey Siri, resume train.”
Needless to say, I almost lost my voice laughing.

@secupriv Dat niet naar omkijken is vrij letterlijk, eenmaal alles geautomatiseerd kom je eigenlijk niet meer terug in de interface van Hubitat. Dashboards aangemaakt, maar doe ik niks mee. Incident management doe ik via #homekit waar ik Hubitat mee heb verbonden. Enige wat ik mis is de prachtige energy dashboards. Daar ga ik voor p1/solaredge nog wel wat voor bedenken. Wellicht #homewizard? Alles wat ik doe, kan zeker met HA, maar door hoe Hubitat werkt, kom je eerder tot echte automatisering.

@kevinctofel It doesn't have to be one or the other with #HomeKit & #HomeAssistant. Home Assistant IS my back end smart home system and all automation runs there, but I also connect HomeKit capable things into HomeKit as well and use Home Assistant to export things like my Zigbee sensors to HomeKit for use as my main UI and via Siri. I find they work well together.

🆕 blog post -- Why I’m switching to Home Assistant
After two-and-a-half years of primarily using #HomeKit, now called Apple Home, I think it’s time for a change in my smart home. Prior to settling on #Google Home for a while. And before that, I was a #Samsung SmartThings user. Moving forward, I think it’s time to transition to #HomeAssistant for several reasons.
Not everything works with #HomeKit and some things never will. That doesn't mean you don't have them. And since you have them, maybe you want to boss them around with your phone and whatnot.
A good way to do this is with a nifty device from Hubitat. It has HomeKit integration so it can be a hub/bridge for the things you can't add to HK directly. My experience is very much "set it and forget it" with the stuff I wasn't trying to be clever about. https://hubitat.com/
I got some great replies to my #HomeAutomation post earlier! My favorite suggestion for a "temporary " device is to leave it in #HomeKit but move it to a different room. I have other devices that will always give me the ! in the corner so I don't have troubleshooting to worry about there.

@Verso I don’t personally have anything seasonal like that in my setup, but I’ve seen people do both.
If it’s not involved in a lot of (or especially complicated) automations, removing and adding again isn’t too onerous.
If it is, maybe create a room in #HomeKit like “Attic” or “Storage” and move it there when not in use.
Here's a fun #HomeKit question for my #SmartHome peeps: I have a smart power strip for my Christmas tree. Like it lives in the box with the other decorations so it's only in rotation for a small part of the year.
Do you leave that device as "no response" for the rest of the year or do you remove and re-add it every time you set up the tree?
ETA: i'm not trying to solve some thing here, I'm curious how other people handle this.

Wenn man bereits nur Apple- und HomeKit-Geräte benutzt, benötigt man idR auch keine HomeBridge oder Home Assistant. Man ist halt beschränkt auf die Auswahl an offiziellen HomeKit-Geräten.
I've replaced my #HomeBridge with #HomeAssistant for my #HomeKit smart home. I have set up a dedicated #Promox server for this and in the process have temporarily retired/freed up two #RaspberryPi.
Quite some research and trial-and-error was necessary, but so far the basics work again and it's a bit faster – and I have more opportunities and control.
My conclusion from this transition: In its current state – even with #Thread and #Matter – an open #SmartHome is still not ready for mainstream.
After ANOTHER false alarm (the third in 10 days) I think we’re just giving up on these terrible OneLink some detectors. The Nest ones seem much better, and we can decide to do #HomeKit integrations if we want to.
Are there any decent #HomeKit smoke detectors on the market?
We had false alarms with the ones that came pre-installed in our house and replaced them with "smart" smoke detectors, in the hopes that they would be better and we would know about an issue while we're not home.
It turns out that not only do these ALSO constantly have false alarms, but they aren't recorded in their system nor do they trigger any of the alerting functionality, meaning they're totally useless for the problems we have

Some updates:
1. I opened a case with Apple. Got escalated to a sr. advisor. I patiently performed the steps according to their script. NO RESOLUTION.
2. I ended up creating a new Home in #HomeKit. This eventually worked. I first factory reset each #HomePod, removed them from the old home, & removed them from my iCloud devices. THEN I added them 1 by 1 to the new home allow each to fully configure before proceeding. Finally added other devices. Then deleted the old home.

@alrescha I have a Hue hub because of #Hue lights. I even have Hue buttons, but even tho Hue boats being "HomeKit", their buttons and switches only control Hue products, not #HomeKit products. Hue won’t activate my native HomeKit #Eve Light Strips (which are far superior). Eve Home shows that not requiring a proprietary hub in addition to #HomePod/ #AppleTV is possible. I even can control Hue via Eve. Hue Hub offers 0 actual benefits. Its only purpose is to make you dependent on it.
The biggest flaw of #HomeKit (besides lackluster control via #Siri) is the confusing range of physical switches and buttons. #Changemymind
I‘m disappointed that Eve Home canned its Button. It was one-of-kind: no hub, wireless, works directly in #Apple Home app and can trigger everything.
Maybe I‘m the only one, but I want and need a plain and simple wireless, hub-less button to trigger HomeKit scenes.
I even thought about buying an old iPad to keep the Home app open 24/7.

Trying to setup #HomePod mini. Been stuck “configuring”for a day. I can play to it, but it won’t control any #HomeKit devices.
Alarms and timers can’t be managed because they are “not on the same network” but they are on the same network.
It can play music via voice / phone / airplay.
I’ve searched for a fix, read several Apple support articles / forum posts. Seems like a common problem but no definitive cause or solid steps to fix.
Any ideas or pointers to a solution?

Grumbling aside.. #Hubitat + #Homebridge has been absolutely rock solid for years. I use HomeKit as our primary frontend and automation layer, and it's been great. The Hubitat hub delivers realtime notifications back to the homebridge plugin and changes show up instantly in Home.app.
I opted for #zwave originally because of it's meshing abilities, and overall resilience compared to WiFi. No regrets. #homeautomation #smarthome #homekit
Home Assistant question. I am going to buy some new Ikea bulbs over the weekend. I have SkyConnect. What is the pairing process? I assume I have to get them connected to the Ikea hub, then what should I do?

Starting to wonder if switching to #HomeAssistant or similar tools for "driving" #HomeKit would make my set of #Nanoleaf RGB lightstrips slightly less flaky. Eg trying to set (or save as a 'Scene’) specific colors via the Home app only works like half the time 😩
(Once I have such a Scene working, it works pretty reliably, it's the configuration step that's half-baked, and which I _assume_ is much easier with an open source tool. OTOH ISTR hearing Hass is very hostile to config management 🤦🏻♂️)

Set up an Shortcuts automation to skip Eve Aqua watering the garden if its likely to rain in the day. Just in time for a bunch of rain earlier this morning.
They provide the shortcut within the Eve app, slightly modified and then added the automation to run each morning. #homekit
I have a ton of Wi-Fi A19 RGB smart light bulbs that work fine, mostly from two or three different brands. I’m considering upgrading to Matter light bulbs, as I am tired of the latency with so many devices on Wi-Fi and want everything to be the same.
Is there some decent secondhand market for these? I could upgrade piecemeal but I feel like it only really makes sense to do it all at once.

@apfelnutzer @Breznsoiza Bei mir wird leider kein konkretes Gerät genannt sondern allgemein 2 „Bewohner“. Frau und Tochter haben jeweils iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch und MacBook. Alle diese Geräte sind auf dem neusten Stand, mehrfach neu gestartet worden und ich hab die sogar alle von iCloud ab- und angemeldet (nervig!). Habe alle 10 Hubs abgeklemmt und nur einen HomePod aktiv gelassen.

Had hier in huis nog een SwitchBot Hub Mini liggen waar ik niets mee deed.
Maar heb ook sinds kort nepkaarsen die ik met een IR-afstandsbediening aan en uit kan zetten. 🕯️
Voor de mensen die me nog niet zo lang volgen. Mijn huis is volledig gebaseerd op #HomeKit en stemgestuurd. 🏡
Afstandsbediening ingelezen in de SwitchBot app, SwitchBot gekoppeld aan #HomeBridge, ‘Kaarsen’ toegevoegd aan accessoires en hop… Kaarsen schakelen mee aan en uit met alle scènes.
