Man I feel sorry for gingers. Playing my second run-through of “Horizon Forbidden West” where the main character is female with long flowy red hair. Every single character you meet along the way calls you by some different redhead reference. “The flame haired outlander”. “Hair like blood”. “Redheaded Nora warrior”. “Legend tells of a maiden with hair like the setting sun”. “Whoa - you’re that (maiden|warrior|similar noun) with the red hair we heard about”.

About a year ago I borrowed Horizon: Forbidden West from a friend and played (and solved) it on the PS4. Thought it was an absolutely amazing game, visually spectacular. That was on 1080p.
Bought it yesterday for $20 (half price, new) since I knew that there was a free upgrade to the PS5 version included.
Good god. It hasn’t disappointed. 4K HDR 120fps on this thing is unbelievable. Literally the most amazing, detailed, vibrant graphics I’ve ever seen in my life. One hundred gigabytes install footprint notwithstanding. The visuals take one’s breath away. Phenomenal game too.
Looking forward to solving it a second time.

Finally got back and finished Horizon: Forbidden West again after my PS5 bricked and wiped my first 100% save. Now I feel like I can actually start the DLC.
100% only took 78 hours this time instead of 100+.
Finally back home with a #PS5 again. All the games I missed are now included with #PSPlus so I’ll have quite a backlog. One reason I stopped playing my PS5 was the games were too expensive. Well, waiting a couple years helped.

The thing is that the #HorizonForbiddenWest #PS5 soundtrack is designed to reflect how Aloy feels at any given moment, so you get to know Aloy emotionally through the music. There’s a lot of compassion and wistfulness there, which resonates deeply with me.
There are moments when the music in this game led me to role-play Aloy stopping dead in her tracks to take in the sunset. The soundtrack is that engrossing. #HorizonForbiddenWest #PS5

Pretty early on, actually, but this is ridiculous: there are multiple, dynamic layer and track transitions that occur in this short segment of gameplay. Brilliant audio design if you ask me.
I also still feel like #HorizonForbiddenWest #PS5 did exactly enough with the main protagonists, the Zeniths. I felt like it was lacking early on, but later, and now, I feel like they fleshed them out exactly as much as they needed. Further, they didn’t fall into the pit of trying to humanize violent, destructive, world-conquering billionaires. There’s a wisdom and economy to these characterizations that still impresses me.
I started #HorizonForbiddenWest #PS5 nearly a year ago, and I think I was playing #HorizonZeroDawn around this time last year. I remember the jank from the first game (Guerrilla got a lot better with character animations), but I also remember the palpable sense of place. Beautiful games.

Oh, I also want to play the whole game on Ultra Hard difficulty. I switched to Ultra Hard in the post-game and played #HorizonForbiddenWest: Burning Shores entirely on that difficulty, and even then I’m like, “more please!!!” 😂

It’s done! I started this Clawstrider at the beginning of the month, and finished just before midnight last night.
I didn’t work on it every night, but more than half. It’s ~7100 pieces, and probably took ~100 hours to assemble.
The instructions were … not amazing, and the kit was missing 10-20 specific pieces. It’s also fragile AF. Can’t really recommend it unless you are ready for frustration.
Lego assembly at 70%! It's starting to look like an actual robot dinosaur!
For scale, it's about 1.5m, nose to tail.
(And probably 7-10 more days until it's done.)

Still think this is one of the most visually appealing games I've ever played. Lots of other contenders on technical merit but Horizon goes hard on certain aesthetics that appeal to my tastes.
