I have to say I'm quite pleased with the updates/upgrades #Apple did with the latest versions of #iOS, WatchOS, and Mac OS. The addition of a ton of new wallpapers and screen savers in Mac OS Sonoma was a nice surprise, and the ability to add widgets to the desktop, including iPhone widgets is cool. Still poking around but I'm pleasantly surprised after several years of feeling rather "meh" about previous software updates.

So with #iOS 17, #Apple has apparently expanded the #Handoff feature to the phone app, meaning now when my 82-year-old mom wants to answer a call and switch it to speakerphone, she is presented with a list of every #HomePod in the house along with “Speaker.”
How do I turn this oh-so-handy feature OFF? Turning off AirPlay and Handoff doesn’t work. Disabling “Allow calls on other devices” doesn’t work.

Oczywiście najwięcej zmian można zaobserwować w iOS 17.1 beta 1. A są to m.in.:
- nowa opcja zaznaczania utworów i albumów jako ulubionych, co skutkuje pojawieniem się ich na playliście Ulubione;
- możliwość zmiany okładki własnych playlist. Wystarczy w widoku wybranej playlisty wcisnąć przycisk trzech kropek, a z menu wybrać Edytuj. Do dyspozycji dostaniemy kilka propozycji okładek lub możliwość wybrania własnej z biblioteki zdjęć;
- w ustawieniach AirDrop pojawiła się opcja, która pozwala przesyłać dane nawet, gdy utracimy połączenie Wi-Fi, czyli z wykorzystaniem transmisji komórkowej;
- rezydenci Wielkiej Brytanii mogą teraz podejrzeć stan konta bankowego w aplikacji Portfel.
Co ciekawe, mamy też informację o nowości, która pojawiła się w watchOS 10.1 beta 1. Chodzi o NameDrop – funkcję dzielenia się swoim kontaktem z innymi użytkownikami poprzez zetknięcie dwóch urządzeń. Ponadto został odnaleziony kod związany z gestem dwukrotnego tąpnięcia palcami w Apple Watch S9 i Ultra 2, ale póki co nie pojawiła się jeszcze opcja, by ten gest włączyć.
W pozostałych systemach nie odnaleziono póki co nic nowego.

@wimleers I’m with Dreamhost, basic IMAP, since over 20 years. Does what needs to do, except for serverside spam filtering.
So indeed: first client to sync is crucial. When my laptop is connected, I get no spam on my phone (Mail on Mac OS makes sure of that). But when my laptop is not connected, I’m being flooded by spam, because the spam-filter on iOS Mail is a disaster.
Does the shortcuts widget constantly reset itself for anyone else? It’s the most unreliable widget I’ve ever used.
For now I created a #Shortcut to toggle Appearance (Dark Mode) and have assigned Triple Tap gesture to it.
A round of applause for whoever worked on this UI improvement to make the indicator for connected headphones now much clearer than it used to be! 👏
No more having to consciously check a little greyscale icon to figure out what’s going on!
(I’ve said it before, but I think colour is an accessibility feature, so it’s nice to see this is now an obvious bright blue when something is connected)

Seit den Update der AirPods Pro 2 auf das Update, in dem auch der Adaptive Audio Mode ist (Welcher übrigens sehr gut ist) haben die Dinger irgendwie ab und an das Problem, dass sie entweder sehr linkslastig oder rechtslastig sind. Das ist dezent verwirrend.
Meist reicht es zwischen Adaptive Audio und Noise Cancelling zu wechseln. Manchmal muss ich sie beide kurz rausnehmen.
Ich hoffe das wird zeitnah behoben. Ist nicht super dramatisch aber immer etwas verwirrend.
Switched from iMessage to Telegram again because iMessage often feels sluggish and only my wife and I were left there.
Now I realized there's no app for the Apple Watch? What the heck? When did this happen? In used it very often back then. Why is it gone? That's a huge bummer and makes Telegram much less useful.
First with iOS 17, and now reports are trickling in as people upgrade to macOS Sonoma: people are getting frustrated that they are doggedly prompted by third-party providers to register passkeys when before they were already buying into iCloud Keychain. It seems due to the fact that the latest Apple OS's don't let users specify different providers for passwords and passkeys.
If you squint a bit you can imagine this driving people away from iCloud Keychain. If one were trying to be diligent about where all their passkeys are stored, and another provider nags enough, it seems likely they'd capitulate.
Maybe this is by design? Perhaps the majority of people only ever use the built-in provider. If 1Password/Dashlane/BitWarden/etc... users are a fraction of a fraction of a percent of users then I can see why platform responses to such outcry might be a resounding, "eh, deal with it."
...I wonder how these things are playing out on the Android side of things 🤔

Time picker on #Android is way better than on #ios. For anybody not in the know. Android has a 12 hour clock with the second row 13-23. The minutes are coming after you selected the hours. iOS has two scroll wheels going from 0 to 24 and 0 to 59. At least it uses the haptic engine to give you a Rolodex feel.

With Apple’s attention to detail, I wonder to this day why the compositing engine on iOS isn’t blurring images in linear space but keeps screen gamma around. My favorite feature of the new iOS is that you can set the wallpaper to change every time your screen turns on. I set it to "Nature" and every time my phone comes on I get to see one of the many amazing vistas I've taken a photo of over the years in our travels. It's so nice to just get a constant trickle of personal photos like that.
Also, I love that the clock clips behind the vista sometimes.
