The lawsuit said the company sought to retain the data for "its own potential use," despite repeatedly assured its users that they could delete voice recordings collected from its Alexa voice assistant and geolocation information collected by the Alexa app.
Under the FTC's proposed settlement with Amazon, which must be approved by a federal court, the company would have to pay a $25 million civil penalty and delete inactive child accounts and certain voice recordings and geolocation information.
All of the videos were stored unencrypted on Ring’s network and could be downloaded, viewed, shared or disclosed by any employee or any contractor, "regardless of whether the employee or contractor actually needed that access to perform his or her job function," according to the complaint.
The complaint highlights one Ring employee who viewed "thousands" of recordings from 81 women, some of whom were other Ring employees, between June and August 2017.
What they're saying: "Ring's disregard for privacy and security exposed consumers to spying and harassment," said Samuel Levine, director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection.
"The FTC’s order makes clear that putting profit over privacy doesn’t pay," he added.
Ring and Amazon said in a statement to Axios that it disagreed with the FTC’s allegations and denied violating the law.

Ich folge Feeds für Blogs und klassischen Webseiten aus den Kategorien #Arbeitssicherheit #Personalwesen #IT #Bildung #edTech #OER #Englisch #Camping #Wissenschaft. Mein Hauptargument ist, dass ich diese Menge an Seiten niemals manuell "unter Kontrolle" halten könnte. Ich kenne fast niemanden, der #RSS Feeds obwohl das so praktisch ist.

Idea for a comic zine.
I think people are making understanding Linux FAR too complicated. I think people would benefit from a guide to what Linux is, what are distros/flavors, how is it the same/different from MacOS and Windows, and what are some common easy to use distros to use if you want to switch to a Linux distro.
Non-tech people get easily overwhelmed and embarrassed that they don't know about tech. So making a comic may make it easier for people.

I saw I recently and cannot find it again :-/
Details of the comic:
- some folks solve small problems in time
- no one really appreciates it
- One problem grows to a biiiiig fire
- one person comes and solves it as a "firefighter" and is celebrated as THE hero.
I think the day I found out about root kits was The Day The Music Died for me.
I was doing self led IT courses during the pandemic and I read that shit and I said... EXCUSE ME? Did I read that right???
And then recently my instructor (different IT program) told me more of what they can DO ON A BIZ NETWORK.
Did I say the man in the show used his WORK COMPUTER to check out the USB???
Idk how sys admins dont age 25 years every time an employee pulls that shit.
For my followers: Root kits are a type of malware (think virus but much worse.) They basically infect your operating system and the kernel beneath.
They can be automated or controlled by a hacker.
They give admin access to the hacker on your computer. Root kits are difficult to detect, especially when they are well made. Difficult to remove, or impossible.
Some root kits can infect your files. So your HDD is ruined. So are your FILES.
Nightmares are made of these.

A man picks up a random usb he sees a stranger leave on the train. He INSERTS IT INTO HIS COMPUTER. 😱
That was scarier than the snuff livestream he found on it, IMO.
I'm just hypervigilant about root kits being everywhere. You might as well throw the entire computer away. 😭

However, sometimes I need pet stuff immediately from a b&m store, so I can't avoid Petco entirely, because chains like them have driven most independent pet stores out of business. *sigh*
I'm too fat and while I'm flexible... I ain't fitting between a concrete and drywall to thread some cables a few 100 feet.

Work From Home just makes SENSE in the IT and Software engineering fields (if you require it as an employee.)
Disabled folk are often left out of the work from home debate. 😒 I have enough voices in my head. I dont need to hear people 5 offices down shooting the breeze while im trying to concentrate.
When you're at the bottom rungs of a career ladder (or just a job ladder), you're expected to be 'burning the candle at both ends', 'running your fingers to the bone', going above and beyond, running this way and that,
All while deftly managing office politics.
A lot of the stuff in IT can be done at HOME. Especially when you're #disabled.
I purposely chose a path that wouldnt be heavy on customer interaction and climbing through walls connecting cables. 😒

4️⃣ Bei #IT- #Projekten wird regelmässig vergessen, vorher die #Ziele zu klären, bei KI sowieso.
