Servo browser engine is getting full-time developers again in 2023, after Mozilla laid off the rust team working on Servo in 2020.

The new development is lead by Igalia – a private, employee-run consultancy focused on open-source software based in Spain. In 2019, they were the second top committers to both the WebKit and Chromium, and in the top 10 contributors to Gecko and Servo.

Back at home after #BlinkOn. Thanks to #Google for hosting it! It was great to be back on site and meeting again #Chromium community.

The best thing? We were 12 from #Igalia on site. So we took the opportunity to host a codecamp in Sunnyvale and spend some time together.

Yesterday, I delivered my lightning talk at #BlinkOn about my work for #Igalia to improve #Chromium #Windows native stack profiling. This work has been sponsored by #bloomberg

Today I am starting a series of 3 blog posts about native call stack profiling. First part is an introduction to the topic: https://blogs.igalia.com/dape/2022/11/16/native-call-stack-profiling-1-3-introduction/

at #Igalia, I've been working on the CI for #Valve's Mesa CI... a CI that tests the CI, basically. Anyways, today I finally got the first passing build of it!

Besides being an ad for #loomio, this article is a pretty good overview of how my employer, #Igalia, operates as a cooperative focusing on free software:

Mozilla führt seinen vier Jahre alten, führenden AR- & VR-Browser "Firefox Reality" nicht weiter. Der Code lebt in einem neuen Open-Source-Projekt weiter.

@feld @aral @avalos That’s not the problem. The problem is that we as society fail to either create rules for browsers that small players can fulfill or fund ethical players well enough.

That said: The funding of Mozilla is on the level of Matlab with just 4 million users. That’s not actually that much money. Germany alone has blown funding on the level of 10% of Mozillas yearly funding into blockchains. Which means: Yes, I think the EU should fund FF development. Maybe pay #Igalia for that.

I promised to write a technical document, covering the current SVG engine in WebKit and the new layer based SVG engine. Check it out here:
