But what about Pentecost? There’s no window showing the descent of the Spirit in tongues of fire, or of Jesus breathing the Spirit into his apostles.
And yet, Pentecost is clearly there, in this early 20th century window of the Works of Mercy that express the Holy Spirit’s agency in human acts of care & compassion.

The dandelion clock, a common enough sight at this time of year, is still an extraordinarily beautiful structure.
#ImageOfTheDay on Monday, Mother Julian’s Day (1343-after 1416). This is the entrance to the chapel that stands on the site of her anchorite’s cell in St Julian’s Church, Norwich where she lived in seclusion for at least 20 years.
On 8 May 1373, seriously ill, she was given the last rites. Gazing on a crucifix she received 16 visions or “showings” over several hours. She recovered from her illness a few days later.
Today is the 650th anniversary of these first “revelations of divine love”.

The first Report by Dr Richard #Beeching, “The Reshaping of British Railways”, was published on this day 60 years ago, on 27 March 1963. During the following years 4,500 miles of track were closed, along with 2,500 stations, resulting in the loss of 67,700 jobs.
This image from the Tanfield Railway in County Durham seems emblematic of what was lost in the 1950s and 1960s both before and as a consequence of the Beeching Reports.
