This demo video shows the player completing level 10 of #haikuna & starting level 11. At about 1m6s the new "bookworm" #npcs make their appearance; these are under development along with other #yōkai-inspired game elements. The game is running in debug mode such that the player only needs to find two poem words to complete a level & the poem words themselves are highlighted in red. This branch exists only to speed up manual testing of certain features across all 14 levels. #gamedev #indiedev
I feel like there is a visibility bias that creates the perception of #LGBT creators primarily making narrative-heavy, overtly queer #IndieGames. This #Pride month, remember that we make games in every theme and genre.
I am a #nonbinary hobbyist #IndieDev aspiring to make games like the ones I grew up with 30+ years ago. Some contain #queer themes and characters; others don't. They are not generally the type of games that the media grants special visibility every June.
Here we go, got all the basic functionality in for this freedraw mode. I think it'll make a nice little diversion and just be a fun little thing to mess with. Now I just gotta polish it (and make sure it doesn't have any weird file saving bugs) and it should be good

Added support for basic lighting using the sdf gradient to compute the normal.
The coloring algorithm is a weird mix of fixed color, a gradient, and lighting. I guess I'll need to figure a better scheme that supports overlaying several of these for a single primitive.

Added support for gradient fill (instead of fixed color), with the gradient shape (linear, circular, etc) controlled by another SDF :)
Old vs new road building icons. Not much of a difference at first glance, but if you look closely the stripe placing & perspective transformation weren't consistent (because I made them in GIMP by hand). Now they are literally generated with the same code :)

Added some hotkeys for potion use and some HUD elements that show coins, arrows, and potion counts. These elements are context-sensitive and will hide after a short time for a clean view of the world. Also HUD scaling!

I worked on several optimizations to speed up the BVH traversal and overhauled some underlying data structures of voxel shapes in #IOLITE to save some memory.
The video shows creating a 4k² world by copying the initial 1k² world 16 times. Height is around 128 voxels, resulting in ~10k 64³ voxel shapes/chunks used for rendering.
Dialogue choices are now implemented. Just need to fix a few bugs and document everything before releasing this update!
