Inspired by memories of an old cemetery I visited on #Inishmore - and it still doesn't seem possible that's been over ten years ago. But obviously it remains prominent in my memories. ☘️

I always welcome sharing whether by boosting or otherwise. This is literally how I pay the bills. ⭐

Digital art painting of a Celtric Cross standing in a grassy knoll surrounded by the rubble of a centuries old cemetery. Inspired by my visit to the island of Inishmore on Ireland's west coast near the city of Galway. The foreground is mostly shadowy grass. Behind the Celtic Cross is a starry night sky with mostly blue color but a bit of pink on the horizon.

Goibniu {pronounced Guhv-nyew (I think!)} ~ Smith of the Tuatha Dé Danann who forged their weapons and made a mean brew.

New personal piece. Or part of it. This is the central panel of a larger piece that I’m currently working on but as usual I can’t sit on anything for any length of time and wanted to share!

#MastoArt #IrishArt #Illustration #mastodaoine

Image shows illustration of mythological character Goibniu, possibly pronounced Guhv-nyew. A panel in the centre shows a blacksmith with a red beard with hammer held high easy to be brought down onto an anvil. A crescent moon shines above his head. At the bottom of the panel is the forge fire and a cauldron in which the smith is brewing a drink. Around the main panel is decorative art showing weapons the smith created.

My Brigid piece might be making an appearance tonight on Ireland's RTEOne at 10:15pm ahead of the first official Brigid's Day.

First created as part of the HerstoryIreland festival in 2020 and what originally got me interested in Irish Mythology.

If I were to do it again today It may be quite different due to what I've since learnt. But it's still an important piece to me.

I also still have a few prints available in my shop. https://theartoflore.etsy.com

I was really pushing it with the amount of detail on the artwork for a digipak size but everything came out great.

Work in progress on my lastest piece. The Smith of the Tuatha Dé Danann, Goibhniu. He made their weapons and made a fierce brew too apparently!

This was the reason for my trip to see real Life Black Smith Tom King in the Boyne Valley. The reference shots helped me with this piece. See my previous post for more info on Tom.

I have big plans for the presentation of this big piece but not sure if they will work or not yet! Stay tuned.

George Bain

"construction principles of Celtic art were re-discovered in the middle of the 20th century by George Bain. Until his writing, the intricate knots, interlacings, and spirals used in illuminating The Book of Kells and in decorating craftwork and jewelry seemed almost impossible, 'the work of angels.'"

Put a few slides in Dark Mode for social media. I never learned to do this, but the book was a huge part of my early #collage process.
#ukart #irishart
#illustration #arte #MastoArt

A cryptic drawing lesson. The creator claims to have reverse-engineered the ancient interlace pattern, from British or Irish manuscripts and stonemasonry. Circles primarily, with more shapes within them. A pretzel-shaped pattern, for creating fluid knots.

The page has been inverted, so the paper is black; the drawing and writing are white.

Square format in acrylics. Bottom half is sea, in blue with light ripples. Five small boats are scattered from foreground to mid-ground: white with pale turquoise trim and wheelhouse; flat with navy bottom and orange top; all white sailboat with mast, all white with wheelhouse; and blue bottom with white wheelhouse and uppers. Town of Bantry is in a band across the middle with a terrace of 4 striking 3-storey buildings coloured blue, green red and white by the entry to the town. Behind are hills of lime green fields with dark green hedgerows and trees, with some white houses above the town. Behind them is a large purple hill and behind it a pale blue mountain with two rounded peaks. Sky of off-white to very pale blue on left. Signed bottom right: Liam Daly

Last week to order pre-Christmas art prints going to the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand from http://www.ciaraioch.com if you want them as gifts for loved ones. If you want them as gifts for enemies order them after this so they'll arrive too late, that'll annoy them.

"Clonakilty Bay" is your first #painting of today's 2, this Sunday full of hope. One of my favourite gentle spots of #Ireland I've cycled alongside this west #Cork scene countless times, carrying paints, dreams, and a case of beer.

digital art. Drawing of Ian McKellen's portrayal of Gandalf but on a muscular body, surrounded by sparkles. He's pulling his long hair and beard apart to reveal his glistening muscular body.
Same as the first image, but a close up shot of his face

"Burren Walls". Your morning painting this cheery Thursday is a County Clare one. Because I love walls. And stones. That sort of thing.
#MastoDaoine #art #MastoArt #painting #Ireland #IrishArt

Landscape format. On flat land of limestone karst rendered in colours of lilac, pale blue and grey, with black crevices and white highlights, is a stone wall running horizontally, with the distinctive burren stones narrow and slanted. In the distance is another wall running across and distant dark lines indicate more before the horizon of a blue low tree-line with a couple of buildings dotted in. A small tree is midway back on the right, and some flecks of olive coloured flora litter the stones. Sky is white fluffy clouds on pale blue. Signed bottom right: Liam Daly

With all the activitiy in the past week, thought it time for an #introduction !

I'm an Irish artist, designer & musician based on the North West Coast of Ireland, with Scotland in view just over the water {on a good day!}

My work mostly sits within the realms of Folklore, Myth & Legend and sometimes the Occult.

Open for personal or commercial commissions, please don't hesitate to get in touch!

Image shows a number of stickers, postcards and a badge all featuring various types of artwork. For example, a moon, a sun, 3 celtic style shields, and two stylised people.
image shows a print of an illustration of Brigid, the pagan figure from Irish mythology. She is conjuring flames in her hands whilst surrounded by iconograhy, such as icons for livestock such as oxen and sheep. There is a couldron on the bottom left with steam eminating around the figure. There is a sun and moon in the top left and at the bottom of her dress there is a slit with Celandine flowers growing.
Image shows a print of an Irish Folklore piece based on the folklore of the hungry Grass. A female figure is shown in a ragged shawl walking over a patch of grass with a body in the ground beneath her. A panel at the top shows the woman lying down having succumbed to hunger with grass growing over her.

In the top left is a crow with something in it's beak.

On the bottom right, a hand is shown reaching upwards and each finger is growing grass. The grass extends upwards in a celtic knotwork style.

At the bottom of the piece is more celtic knotwork and the title in Irish.
Image shows a 12" vinyl cover for a band called Tusk. The title of the album is 'Between the Dirt and the Stars'.

It features an intersecting geometric design with numerous organic elements within each section.

Featured in the middle is a serpent. Other items featured around the piece include plants, fungi, artichoke, grass, clouds, birds, animal skeletons and the sea.

The piece is mostly black and grey with gold and purple flourishes.
