Home again, home again, jiggety-jig. I arrived home from Venice to find that a) Myrtle had eaten one of my jalapeno plants and b) there were a plethora of Hakurei turnips to harvest.

I spent the day riding in these 90-year-old train carriages in northern #Italy.
They say England has a lot of railfans and trainspotters, but here there’s an entire culture devoted to keeping vintage trains on the tracks, and old routes active. Impressive!

Climate change had no ‘significant’ impact on northern Italy floods in May 2023
The findings show that #ClimateChange led to no “significant change in the likelihood or intensity of such an event” at this time of year in this Italian region. The researchers say this suggests that “there is indeed no detectable increase in heavy rainfall in the #EmiliaRomagna region in spring”.

Just arrived in #Milan #Italy and one of the first things my wondering, jet-lagged eyes see is a tram on the grass.
That’s the way to make green transit even greener. Put the tram/streetcar tracks on a carpet of grass or sedum. 2 kms of track creates 1.5 football fields' worth of green space, reducing air pollution and urban heat island effect. (Wild grass is especially effective.)

NEGAZIONE was a hardcore punk band based in Turin, Italy.
Formed in 1983, they were one of a very few underground bands in all of Italy at the time.
I had a DJ friend in the late 80s turn me on to these guys. He was obsessed with them and would play them all the time.

So I'm sitting on a covered restaurant patio having dinner when a dozen+ couples start tango dancing on the other side of the square. Then it starts raining, and they all keep dancing. And then my brain gets a good idea for a short story because that's magic.
The following is a very good article about the effects of climate change and how Italy has already had a troubling list of weather disasters.
The article is only 12 days old, so it's missing the latest tragedy: a capsized boat on Lake Maggiore – the place I was born and raised – three days ago, caused by a whirlwind that was part of a storm.
It's the first time I hear of such weather phenomenon in the area.
