This all aligns with the theology/mythology of Sukot, with its eschatological overlay of being associated with the messianic age... literally a time after the end of history, when the struggles of historical existence end and we enjoy the fruits of our labors, so the fact that it falls after the end of the year (the end of time, as it were), places it outside of "time" in calendrical metaphorical sense.

It's cool poetry is what I'm saying. And we get to live inside this poem... just like we get to live in sukot.

I always dig the fact that even though we've moved into 5784, we are still planning to celebrate the final chagim (Sukot and Shmeni Atzeret) of the LAST year. It's as if hazal, or HKBH, hooked the years together... starting the new one before the old one was done, and keeping the old year in play even after the new one began. It's a new year! But we're still celebrating last years harvest! We are living in overlap time.

But since the #invasion, the Jewish community has repeatedly been instrumentalized in #Kremlin #propaganda.

Speaking of #Russia’s “very long & difficult history of antisemitism” at various stages during the #Soviet era, Goldschmidt said he worries that the country is “going back to the past.”

It was not the 1st time since #Russia’s … #invasion of #Ukraine that #Putin has attacked #Zelensky’s #Jewish heritage. In June, he told an economic forum in St.Petersburg: “I have a lot of Jewish friends. They say Zelensky is not a #Jew; he is a disgrace to the Jewish people.”

Putin’s comments, …an effort to justify claims that Russia’s war is intended to “denazify” Ukraine, are part of a wider pattern of #antisemitic rhetoric by the #Kremlin & its #propagandists that has drawn criticism….

By dividing #Jews between the 'good' conservative ones and the 'bad' liberal ones, #Trump is engaging a #trope that has always been utilized by #antiSemites. From the 'good' Jews who were willing to convert, or at least hide their Jewishness during the #Inquisition to the 'good' Jews who served as Kapos to the #Nazis, anti-#Jewish #bigots have always found examples of Jews they like. But only as a cudgel to use against the rest

As a scholar who has been studying Soviet & Russian politics for decades; who discusses that subject regularly w/friends, family members, & professional colleagues; & who keeps tabs on what #Putin’s critics say about him, I cannot remember him publicly trafficking in #antisemitism before now. Indeed, his seemingly benevolent attitude toward his #Jewish subjects made him unusual among Russian leaders.

Things must be really bad for Russian President Vladimir #Putin, because he is resorting to one of #Stalin’s preferred ways of holding on to #power: appealing to #antisemitism. Recently, Putin has made a series of remarks dwelling on the fact that Ukrainian President Volodymyr #Zelensky is #Jewish.
