Moving has cost me over $4000, and ended up putting me almost $2500 in debt.
I didn't get rent assistance for the first 6 weeks of living here because they lost my lease copy and they're refusing to backpay it. So I started the first 6 weeks here adding over $180 a fortnight to that debt as well.
I'm in a new house with a new landlord, and am barely able to make rent at the moment, let alone cover bills and food.

The jobseeker payment is slated to increase by $56 a fortnight on 20 September, when the $40 a fortnight increase announced in the budget will come into effect, as well as 2.2% indexation for cost of living.
But despite price jumps in non-discretionary goods and services like utilities, rent and food outstripping the increase, and a $20bn budget surplus, Rishworth said there was unlikely to be any further cost-of-living relief forthcoming this year.

I'm currently sitting in #Centrelink trying to get some information after being kept on hold for 2.5 hours.
Please cross fingers for me, because I don't know what I'm going to do if this isn't just an error. I can't survive on what I get now, let alone if it's decreased by that much.

The other thing to keep in mind with regards to the #JobSeeker increase is that it's LESS than inflation - so people on Jobseeker are actually getting less support than we were last year.
And this in the context of a report on Jobseeker that states the payment being so minimal is literally creating a barrier in itself to people getting work.
So, it costs $126.63 per day to live in Australia.
We pay $49.51 per day to people on Jobseeker.
But it's ok, because the new budget will give us $52.36 per day.
Albanese says that criticism isn't warranted because that extra $2.86 per day will help us.

Just a reminder:
A budget surplus is the sign of social policy failure.
If you have a surplus then you're hoarding money as a government, instead of spending it on education, health care, support payments, climate crisis measures, roads and infrastructure.
#Australia is rich. There is no need for any of us to live in #poverty.
This is a policy decision not an economic one; and the proposed idea of incrementally raising the rate of #Jobseeker to 55+ only is yet another ploy to pit the older against younger generations (and buy votes).

I've applied to 30 jobs in the past six months, gotten three interviews, and no offers. Just some anecdotal #jobseeker math.
On the whole I think the Albanese govt is doing a good job. I don't support all their decisions and believe some should go further (eg stop coal & gas mining) but after the debacle of the Abbott-Turnbull-Morrison years the Labor govt is a breath of fresh air.
The decision not to raise JobSeeker payments is indefencible however. Excuses can be made but lives and the welfare of vulnerable ppl are at risk.
Those relying on JobSeeker should not be punished, made homeless, suffer physical & mental health issues by receiving payments that do not even pay for basics: shelter & food.

So, after just 6 months, I'm looking for a new job due to the absurd amount of boss's micromanagement and incompetence and I'd love to hear some opinions.
I'd like to get into #infosec, it's been the end-goal for me the last 4 years but I fear I'm not good enough for it. Been a decent webapp #programmer (.NET Core) years ago, did some usual #sysadmin (Linux) stuff past 3 years, now I'm working on a clusterfuck of 5+ years neglected infra of 1300+ VMs (Linux, Windows, no documentation) which I largery fixed, I also do Linux hardening and work with Nessus on vulnerability mitigation, too. I have no certs and no "read the whole tech specs book" knowledge as I can only learn by doing and solving actual problems which makes it harder for me to gauge/sell my skills and get in the door. Any advices/thoughts?

i really want to work. doing things and making things makes me immensely happy. i CAN do things. but i need a remarkable amount of flexibility and understanding that, from what i understand, typically isn't considered "reasonable accommodations" in a professional setting.
i'm interested in so many things: programming and software development, art, literature, design, etc. i just don't know what interests or fields to pursue that would allow me to find a career with the flexibility i need.
as a disabled, chronically ill autistic person... i just don't even KNOW what's out there, what to reach for.
does anyone know anything? can anyone point me in some direction for flexible, autistic-friendly pathways?
