They just worked on technical tasks for hours and hours every day! They even took work home with them! And workers' rights? This character would never have thought of forming a union or filing an HR complaint about "unfair wage inequity." What even is that! Haha! Anyway, if this is you, and you don't really like "vacations" or "money," come work for us!

There is a complete and total erosion of trust between tech companies and their employees as a result of both irrational spending and irrational layoffs.
Combined with the now irrational spending on AI, it's no wonder that previously spoken words about caring for each other and respecting one another are pointed out as hollow promises.
Now the remaining are in a zero sum game with silent layoffs happening every quarter. Just plain sad.

- Currently a Java/Eclipse developer focusing on plugin development in an academic environment, but interested in tooling, backend development, compiler development, ...game development if I can get my foot in the door!
- Favourite languages are Go (with a couple of academic projects I worked on in that language), Haskell (a bit of code in this and other functional languages I can show for it), and Rust (not managed to use this professionally yet but I want to ^^)
- PhD and MEng in CS from a good university (experience with low level concurrency verification, formal methods, compiler testing, those sorts of things)
- Used to work on university society websites including in Go (though I wouldn't call myself a modern full stack developer)
- Remote and hybrid roles around or accessible from York, UK; can relocate in medium term
- Looking to start at around £40K--45K
