I didn't believe it, so I ignored the email. Not only have I had student loans since 1994, but in 00s my loans were sold multiple times to different servicers and keeping up with that was a pain. What I did notice each time they were sold was the principal getting higher and higher - for nothing.

My total owed should have been around $60k, plus interest. But for the last decade it has been - I shit you not - $200k. I'd given up on trying to figure out which servicers jacked it up to ridiculous levels, and whether the effort was even worth it. I figured I'd die with $200k in loans...

A Montana Judge Just Ruled the State’s Constitution Bans New Fossil Fuel Plants

In Montana, young residents just won a lawsuit charging that construction of a new gas power plant was barred by the state constitution. But “pro-climate” President Joe Biden is arguing fiercely against letting the US Supreme Court hear a similar case.

The wording in Article IX, Section 1, of Montana’s constitution couldn’t be clearer: “The state and each person shall maintain and improve a clean and healthful environment in Montana for present and future generations.” Accordingly, in April, a district court judge in Yellowstone County voided a permit for a natural gas–fired power plant under construction there. Over its lifetime, it would have released an estimated twenty-three million tons of planet-roasting carbon dioxide, and that, ruled the judge, was incompatible with a “clean and healthful environment” in Montana or, for that matter, anywhere else.

Slightly higher times: Biden administration moves to loosen weed restrictions

The Biden administration’s Department of Health and Human Services is recommending that the Drug Enforcement Administration significantly loosen federal restrictions on marijuana but stopped short of advising that it should be entirely removed from the Controlled Substances Act.

The health agency wants the drug moved from Schedule I to Schedule III under the CSA, potentially the biggest change in federal drug policy in decades.

Cannabis is currently a Schedule I substance on the CSA, which means it is deemed to have a high likelihood of abuse and no medical uses. Heroin and LSD are also Schedule I drugs. Schedule III drugs are categorized as having “moderate to low potential for physical and psychological dependence.” The category includes ketamine and testosterone.

The HHS recommendation is the result of a nearly yearlong federal review of all available marijuana research. Biden’s executive action — which also included federal pardons for low-level marijuana convictions — was seen by many as a political move taken ahead of the midterm elections to incentivize turnout among younger and more progressive voters.
