Little sense of historic context and precedents, who’s affected, who’s fighting back, much more.

Some design fixes and tweaks and we've removed the requirement for authorize follows.

@peterdeppisch it would be great to see #journalists independently verifying the leaks. But unless CSIS leaks some specifics, it looks like that will be really hard.
I suspect the only way we'll get some kind of conclusion to the accusations is through an inquiry or legal action. Something with enough teeth to investigate riding finances and private communications.
There is very little reason or evidence for us to think that there will be sufficient editorial independence at a paper like #TheStraitsTimes for them to make a clear demarcation between the Ministry of Home Affairs as a commercial client, and as part of the government their #journalists are supposed to report on bravely, without fear or favour.

Excitingly, my recent Springer Nature Group paper with Jason R.C. Nurse and Andrew Martin has just been published!
The article presents six novel categories of #InternetOfThings #threats to the #media:
1) #Regulatory gaps,
2) #Legal threats,
3) #Profiling threats,
4) #Tracking threats,
5) #Data and #device modification threats,
6) #Networked device threats.
Each of the threats in these categories includes a description and #narrative vignettes of hypothetical consequences that include real-life ways in which #IoT devices can be used to inhibit #journalism, building on interdisciplinary literature analysis and expert interviews.
In so doing, this article synthesises #technical information about IoT device capabilities with human #security and #privacy requirements tailored to a specific at-risk population: #journalists. It is therefore important for #cyber #science scholarship to address the contemporary and #emergingrisks associated with IoT devices to high-risk groups such as journalists.

I have been waiting for criticism of this deliberate assault on #EnglishGrammar to reach the #mainstream.
#Conservatives have been forcing this idiotic #meme for over 20 years. It is #StandardOperatingProcedure at #FoxNews and their ilk and among the dumbest #politicians.
I have heard many supposedly legitimate #journalists use #Democrat when the correct word is #Democratic. My mom taught #grammar.
In a shocking turn of events journalists at the New York Times found themselves "rightsized" following an editorial decision to move entirely to "AI-informed" reporting.
Senior sources at the paper said "In these times of economic hardship, tough decisions have to be made and the technology now exists to produce our hard-hitting and factual reporting at extremely competitive rates."

Query for independent #journalists and #media #communications professionals: Just learned that Dinghy, the media liability insurance provider used by many freelance journalists and authors (through Authors Guild, for instance) is getting out of that line of business. Curious about other providers people are using? Apparently current policies will continue through term but no renewal and no new policies.
