#Linux and #KDEPlasma is a massive boost to the desktop productivity experience. Instead of requiring a ton of third party, proprietary apps, a lot of the "regular" or even "not so regular" things I might need/want to do can be done directly from #Dolphin, the file manager (equivalent to #FileExplorer on #Windows, #Finder on #macOS).

From Dolphin, I could:

- Convert documents and slides to pdf.
- Convert annoying image (jpeg/png) receipts to pdf.
- Convert images into any other image formats you'd need.
- Resize images.
- Combine multiple pdfs into one, or break one big pdf into multiple.
- Rotate any images.
- Combine any images (into a collage).
- Convert pdfs into images.
- Combine multiple images into a gif or video.
- Access and use your Google Drive (or most other cloud drives) directly from Dolphin.
- Compare the difference between multiple text-based files.
- Send files to other devices using #KDEConnect.

Many more other things really on top of all of the other, more basic things you could do built into Dolphin like its amazing search feature, and the ability to compress/uncompress any formats including rar. I thought macOS was better at this vs Windows, but even then what macOS is able to do (from Finder) isn't even 10% of what Dolphin could. Also, Finder's insanely freaking slow, I'd actually take the ancient File Explorer any day.

As of November 22nd 2023, my experience with #Wayland #KDEPlasma on #Nvidia GPU is still atrocious, while on #AMD is almost flawless ... Seriously thinking swapping my RTX 3060 in my secondary PC with RX 6600 despite expecting slightly worse game performance ... Screw Nvidia ...

Flipped my laptop and desktop over to #Debian.

#OpenSUSE was cool, but surprise kernel regressions on my hardware isn't what I want on my desktop. OpenSUSE gives you the tools to rollback and managing it. But would much rather it never happens in the first place.

I've been flipping around rolling or quickly updating distros the past few months, mainly because I kinda want to play with #KDEPlasma 6 when it drops, but all I have done is just reminded myself that I don't like that style of linux.

KDE Neon gets kinda close with it's LTS base and it's rolling KDE user land on top. But I swear, Canonical doesn't know how to make a LTS release with some annoying bug under the hood that impacts me specifically.

Was curious to try #Wayland on #KDEPlasma on my desktop w my #NVIDIA GPU and happy to report that it's still crappy and broken as all hell :D Not surprised since it's also been crappy and broken on my other all #AMD systems, but on NVIDIA it's especially awful. Looks like I'll be stuck with #X11 for a really long time.

Uso bastante la función de Actividades en #KDEPlasma: una para "Trabajo" y otra "Personal", a veces uso el mismo fondo de escritorio en ambas; para diferenciarlas rápidamente, añado widgets en la de trabajo.

Tiene mucho que no uso Windows más que para lo indispensable (no me pongo a personalizarlo), ¿saben si estas cosas ya son posibles allá?

I installed the #kdeplasma #fedora spin on a seperate drive, and with only a 'lil bit of tweaking, it's like I'm still on gnome! (gnome gods pwease don't krill me for this)

also, I even made GTK4/Libadwaita (and flatpak) apps fit in!

New Plasma mini-rice cuz I was bored and didn't wanna be productive. Got a new conky theme (Minimalist), and edited it a fair bit to include both my processing unit temps, including bars, and my proxy connection and drives that it didn't have before. Also I moved my desktop shortcuts over because I've now just always got a terminal over my desktop background cuz I can.

New server, new #introduction:

My name isn't set yet, but I've tried Samantha and currently Melody. Online I go with m* (read m Star) and I'm from the south of Germany.

Like most people here, I am #trans (mtf), some variation of human (catgirl in my case) and highly interested in the tech sector, specifically making software do things. For this, I usually rely on #fedora as the OS with both #gnome or #kdeplasma as Environment, depending on what I feel like.

As for what funky software stuff I do: It's mostly focused on making games, utility stuff for games or utility stuff relevant for areas related to games (like a multiplatform chatbot for Twitch, YT Live, etc). For this, I mostly rely on the #godotengine and #golang. Though, I do also put my hands on #rustlang, #python, #typescript (mainly via #svelte). Other projects that I'm interested in are #htmx and #ziglang.

And some day I might also join the club of #vtubers. I even have a ref sheet already for what my character looks like. See attachment

@grandfunk choice of OS for my personal workstation was one of the key questions for my new employer. Had to endure Win for the past 8 years and while WSL brought some relief, I just can't get over the horrible and inconsistent UX of Windows' window manager/desktop shell.
Really looking forward to putting my #KDEPlasma setup on #NixOS to work soon!
