August 2022 when fuel prices in Ireland were sky-high, and they’re likely to go in that direction again. In that month, a litre of petrol or diesel was €2.059 in Dingle, Co. Kerry.

The price per litre has since dropped to €1.618, or at least it was at the end of April when I last purchased petrol.

On 20th April 1983 Fungie was first spotted in Dingle harbour. Fungie became the most famous dolphin in the world. Nowhere else has a dolphin stayed for so long in the wild while interacting with humans. By 2019, it was estimated that he was at least 40 years of age and Guinness World Records declared him to be the oldest solitary wild dolphin in the world. He was last seen on 13th October 2020.

Cú Roí appears to have been originally a deity transformed into a hero, for he lived in a rotating #Otherworld fortress whose entrance disappeared after sunset. The site is variously locked in the Slieve Mish mountains of Co. #Kerry or at Temair Luachra, an untraceable place that probably refers to Tara in Co. Meath. Within that castle he kept his magical cauldron, so huge that 30 oxen fit inside it. Thus he resembles the fertility deity called the Dagda. Some have found in Cú Roí an ancestral deity of #Munster, others a figure of the sacred king who brings good fortune with an honest reign.

In the middle of February I joined members of Blarney Photography Club for a sunrise photoshoot over the Lakes of Killarney. The scenery was stunning, with early morning light casting a warm orange hue over the still waters of the lake and misty mountains in the distance.

We were over by Brickeen Bridge, a good 30 minute walk from the car park, but worth it for the glow of the sky on the water.

There’s something about a small boat on a calm lake that just begs to be photographed. And when you add in the backdrop of hills shrouded in clouds and the texture of the reeds in the foreground, it becomes a picture-perfect moment.

Capturing that moment, though, can be a challenge. You want to make sure you get just the right angle and lighting to do it justice. But when you finally get that shot, it’s all worth it.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Lakes of Killarney with Blarney Photography Club and snapped this long exposure photo near Ross Castle. The scene was magical, with the reeds gently swaying in the breeze and the bare trees looking like skeletons on guard.

"Caherdaniel Fort" Your evening #painting is from the southwest of #Ireland and a fabulous week I spent in a magical corner of west County #Kerry. An Abstract Forest in Motion

While out with Blarney Photography Club in Killarney National Park recently, we came across a small forest of slender tree trunks stretching up towards the sky like spindly fingers. Skeletal Trees by the Pond

As I walked back from shooting the sunrise at the Lakes of Killarney with members of Blarney Photography Club, I caught sight of something that made me pause. I love to see bees in my garden and I'm looking forward to their return soon. This is one from last summer. I try to record all the bees in my garden, although I still can't properly identify them. I appreciate any information thanks.

Recent days have seen several out of control gorse fires in this region. Whole mountains have been burnt. Burning gorse is normal farming practice here. I wonder how many bees are destroyed.

For #StandingStoneSunday, this #lichen covered, approximately 2m high sentinel overlooking #ClogherStrand, in the #Dingle Peninsula, County #Kerry, #Ireland. I actually couldn't tell whether this was a truly ancient stone, or whether it had been put there by an enterprising tourist facility owner, as the base around the stone has been reinforced.
