I think the idea of state-sanctioned drug use clinics is actually very reasonable and kind thing.
Addiction is a disease, not a crime or personal failing, and for a state government (as Minnesota is doing) to code in public policy the fact that addicts don't deserve to die sends a very powerful message.
It's just odd that it's a US government (granted, state-level) doing it, as our policy in this country is generally to demonize addicts.

Getting work done on the house today. I was surprised and dismayed to discover a birdhouse hanging from the eaves has occupants. I had assumed it was empty until I saw a chickadee fly in and heard peeps coming from inside. The company owner noticed the birds as well. He gave his crew chief firm instructions to take care working around the nest, to move it only when it is absolutely in the way, and to hang it back in place as soon as they are done working on that spot. Hopefully the disturbance isn't too much for mama and papa bird to cope with; I'd hate for them to abandon the family. #chickadee #kindness

I had such a nice experience yesterday.
My local supermarket has a promotion going with a well-known service organisation and I wasn't carrying my membership card. The lovely lady at the till suggested I make a phonecall to find out my memb number. Couldn't get through.

One of my long time clients of over a decade just emailed me to let me know that he's retiring after having sold his company and seeing the merger through a successful transition.
Freelancing isn't for everyone. It's extremely lonely to never have a permanent team to be a part of.
When you're forever transient, having clients who treat you as a person who meant enough to them that they thought of you as someone they should notify of their major life changes, makes all the late nights you've put in for them worthwhile.
These small human touches are huge gestures that you really appreciate when you work as a freelancer, especially a solo freelancer.

#today started with a man in our neighborhood breaking down in tears because of how terribly his employer is treating him, and financial hardship he's suffering as a result.
Today ended with a lot of our neighbours donating grocery items and money to give him a huge care package with basic items as well as some nice treats for him and his son.
And I don't live in a well off neighborhood. People are awesome.
We're also going to sort out his employment situation. Enough is enough.
The gloves are officially off.
Based on my experience on Mastodon since October, audiences here are more compassionate, sensitive, and humanistic than on the bird site.

Most human traits are shared across the board, whether you have #autism or not. These traits are also combined with so many variables that there's no way to uphold *any* sort of claim that "group x is _____". That's textbook bigotry & #prejudice.
When we get off the beaten path, we still find this kind of #symmetry. For every above average person there's a below average one. This is regardless of being #autistic or any other category.
Also, there is no single 'box'. There's one for every context, and most of the time, by definition, the box represents a successful strategy already adopted. The time to go outside these norms is when a new problem arises, or the standard way no longer works. It is not a constant.
If increased acceptance of #diversity is the goal, let's not go about it by hammering wedges between people by claiming to be superior to others, or to be uniquely suffering in this absurd world.
It's true that we can speak of increased likeliness for certain things (including many bad ones you did not mention), given the small % of people in the autistic basket, but that will always be countered by the sheer numbers of human beings near the middle of the bell curve-- literally billions-- who are *not* being individually accommodated by anyone.

If you don't know much about him, it might be worth checking out his story. He's no longer with us, but what he talked about really hits home for me. There's this one story he wrote that I absolutely love.
I got to meet him briefly when he was in the hospital.
The way he embodied pure love and kindness was something I'd never felt before.
His eyes were so clear and innocent, like a child's.
This is one of the sweetest expressions of love for animals I have ever seen. Iโm enamored with this Dazza fellow and his little frog sanctuary. ๐
