Every few years or so, someone tries to reinvent Wikipedia.

The honor system works for a bit, but they all inevitably run into trolls and spammers.

The solution to more reliable facts isn't to have a single consolidated knowledge base, but a #knowledgegraph that links a single fact to several sources.

Why are GPT models so big? It's because they contain a lot of knowledge that could potentially be externalized into a cheaper to run knowledge graph, freeing up large language models to focus more on language fluency & reducing parameters considerably. There's a powerful symbiosis between #ChatGPT a #SemanticWeb (public or private) that is not immediately apparent. This symbiosis exists because ChatGPT is inherently data-dependent, while a Semantic Web consists of boundless structured data constructed using machine-computable entity relationship types that are constructed from hyperlinks.

The Error is the Message: Extracting Insights from Deceptive Data for Nazi looted art

Turning dross into gold. Knowledge graphs, with their capacity for surfacing vast hidden networks, can help detect looted art from the ownership history – or provenance – of artworks. The cultural heritage sector and art industry have explored named entity recognition with an event-based approach using CIDOC-CRM. However, Nazi-looted art poses a particular challenge, in part due to the passage of time, and in part due to unreliable data, as attempts to conceal and distort information which began in the Nazi era continue into the digital age. Missing, confusing or badly coded entities, false dates, names, events, places, the mixing of speculation and fact occur with such frequency in Nazi-looted art that it is useful to view errors, not as anomalies to be cleansed from the dataset, but as primary features to be analyzed. This presentation focuses on strategies and methods to quantify, classify, code and exploit this unreliable information in order to detect looted art and the patterns and networks which underly its commercialisation.

Thus far, I've showed you operations against what's in the underlying #DBMS.

Now, let say you want to progressively add more:
That's where sponging (an #ETL operation) comes into play.

Example:

Given a link that denotes a toot | tweet | post | document of interest, the following link-pattern will load or add to the underling DBMS hosted #KnowledgeGraph (or #SemanticWeb).

http://linkeddata.uriburner.com/https://linkeddata.uriburner.com/describe/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fmastodon.social%2F@kidehen%2F109988767647091079&sponger:get=add -- load/add

Text indexing happens too, in 5 min intervals.

This whole puppy thing has got me thinking about writing about #AI and #AGI in the context of what puppy training is - teaching these small creatures like a #knowledgeGraph and not a language model.

You teach puppies the semantics and semiotics of the world (X is safe, Don't eat Y, pee on Z, etc) - you don't feed the a corpus of information and expect them to parse it. That's how you end up with problem dogs.

Same for children. Same for AI

@davew,

What do you seek, interop wise, from a solution that supports #RSS or #OPML?

For instance, our products are able to achieve the following with OPML:

1. Generate a knowledgebase (or #KnowledgeGraph these days) "on the fly" using query languages such as #SQL, #SPARQL, #GraphQL

2. Content Subscription

Regarding RSS, it can do all of the above plus:

1. Publish query solutions in that format
2. Publish folder content

@davew,

Here's yet another angle:

#RSS solves for publication and syndication of posts.

See: https://tinyurl.com/bdex5wys

#ActivityPub solves for Activity Streams which goes beyond posts.

See: https://tinyurl.com/2mxk3rjh

Ultimately, #HTTP software agents will be able to process structured data consuming either.

In my case, it all ends up in a #KnowledgeGraph (using a bookmarking-like interaction pattern). All the data is accessible via #SQL, #SPARQL, #GraphQL, etc..

When building new APIs, we add “implicit semantics” that make devs having to write specific code for it. Technically that shouldn’t be necessary.

Within #SolidProject, these implicit semantics are well illustrated by the question: “where do you write what and how”?

Our paper on Solid as a hybrid personal #knowledgegraph argues we should not use a document-centric approach for organizing semantics in personal #knowledgegraphs

Concluding my #polls on whether structured #knowledge is needed to do a good job for #NLP / #NLProc tasks:

* Poll on LinkedIn (total = 112): we have 18/72/10% said no/yes/other.
* Poll on Sigmoid.social/#Mastodon (total = 29): 24/55/21% said no/yes/other.

Hi there, I'm a historian working in #DigitalHistory. My research (https://digitalheraldry.org/) is about creating a #knowledgegraph for coats of arms on historical objects. With this, we study the usage and development of #heraldry as a tool for visual communication.
I'am also doing a PhD on heraldry on painted walls and ceilings and about exploring approaches to utilize knowledge graphs for historical research.

#introduction.

I studied #computerScience and #philosophy. My PhD time at the #KIT was on #SemanticWeb topics. Started #Wikidata, then moved to the Bay Area to work for #Google on the #KnowledgeGraph. I was a community elected member of the Wikimedia Board of Trustees.

Currently, working on #Wikifunctions and #AbstractWikipedia at the #Wikimedia Foundation.

Used to play and write for #DasSchwarzeAuge which was big fun. From #Croatia via #Germany.

#introduction
I am an open data access (#ODBC, #JDBC, and #HTTP), integration (#DataVirtualization), and data management (#DBMS and/or #KnowledgeGraph) technologist, enthusiast, and entrepreneur.

I am passionate about open standards for #Identity #Authenticity, #SocialMedia (#ActivityPub & #ActivityStreams), and data de-silo-fication initiatives (e.g. #SemanticWeb, #LODCloud, #LinkedData, #RWW, and #SmallData).

I don't like any kind of silo!

Grüß dich! #introduction

My name is Katharina and my topics are data, politics, and their intersections.

Currently, I work as a data journalist at Bayerischer Rundfunk. Is the hashtag #ddj still a thing?

Previously, I built a #KnowledgeGraph on queer history. Read more at: https://queerdata.forummuenchen.org/en/ #linkeddata #wikidata

Mostly I code in R, the #rstats community is a great, caring group of people. I like to write tutorials 🤷, occasionally I post them on https://katharinabrunner.de/blog

#introduction

I live in #Copenhagen (#Ørestad) with my wife and toddler son. I spend most of my day either on my computer or my #bicycle.

I work in #Danish #academia within the area of #LanguageTechnology using—pretty much exclusively—the #Clojure #programming language to get the job done. I am also becoming quite familiar with #RDF #KnowledgeGraph tech.

In the not so distant past I lived in northern #China. I also speak & read #Chinese, although I must admit that it's pretty rusty now.
