Although he was described as one of the most scientific boxers of his day, it was noted that his punch wasn’t hard enough to take the fight out of his opponents.

Astley’s Amphitheatre (#Westminster Rd, #Lambeth) built by Philip Astley in 1773 & owned at this time by Andrew Ducrow is consumed by fire for the 3rd time (1794, 1803) & destroyed. It was then purchased by William Batty & completely rebuilt.
