And who ever came up with the idea of sometimes representing te-form as a verb ending in its stem i-form rather than -te wants a major telling off ;) example 聞き rather than 聞いて

Always forgetting about it and thinking they are compound verbs!

Stop it your not big and not clever, you are a very naughty boy!

Cool Japanese word for today:

Water 水 Die 死 - 水+死 Drown

Sometimes Japanese do better words than the English :)

Ok kids don't go swimming after eating or you may WATER DIE!

And yes 溺死 is probably better but seriously Water Die is cool.

Tatoeba must have been in a mood:

彼らは水死した。They became food for fishes.

彼女は子供を水死させてしまった。She allowed her child to be drowned.

にいぼん/あらぼん【新盆】(Niibon/Arabon)
the first Festival of the Dead after a person's death.

In this month's final poetry post, I'm waving goodbye to January with a winter-themed sonnet by Helen Hunt Jackson titled — surprise — "January".

Helen Hunt Jackson was a poet, novelist, activist for the rights of the Native Americans and, interestingly, Emily Dickinson's classmate and lifelong friend.
