I installed Portmaster[1] on Windows 10 (VM) and blocked Adobe Lightroom Classic. That made the whole software to freeze and become non-responsive.
319 connections so far, 0% blocked. The software talks to some subdomains for adobe.io (photos, lcs-cops, ic, lcs-robs, and a few more) and photoshop.com.
Oh how I wish darktable were just like Lightroom: automated and easy to use.

recently i have complained about the preview in #lightroom turning black until the cursor moves (or it takes a few seconds or glitches until it reveals the current content) – i have since realized that affinity photo is affected as well, althrough not as bad. are there some #apple #m2pro #m2 owners who know something on the issue? i am not sure how to look it up right now, this is quite frustrating...

A question to the more experienced people around here: is it possible to edit the same photos from different windows machines?
My setup so far:
~50k photos incl. XMP-sidecars on NAS-folders. The Lightroom-Database is synced via OneDrive.
Any advice (english or german) would be appreciated!

So my wife has an #Adobe #Lightroom plan that suddenly got blocked due to "trouble with her bank account". It was a weekend so there was no customer support and she needed to get a job done. So she got a new plan and was able to sort it out with a call to customer support the next Monday. She even has e-mail confirmation for that cancelled plan.
And now *boom* she not only was charged twice but her Adobe account continues to list 2 Lightroom plans.

The sky was photographed at sunset, when the sky was still bright, while the urban streets and buildings were captured much later after sunset. A first attempt, on an evening of rain and cold when we didn’t expect much of a sunset at all.

You can easily change this Smart Folder to show just videos, or all files, or music, by changing the "Kind" parameter quickly.

I really should teach the volunteers how to handle the 50mm lens. I use it all the time, and this makes me think everyone knows how to use it. Yet they used a very low ISO with it, forcing me to shot up the shadows from 200 photos on Lightroom to actually see the people.

I think this was one of the first pictures I took while walking from the train station to my hotel during the few days I was in #Amsterdam. The morning fog was something I didn't expect to see, but I loved having it there.
I don't know how I feel about #Adobe #Lightroom enhanced noise reduction. Sometimes, it can save a shot, but other times it makes it look like an unreal thing and really, it just makes me greedy for even better high ISO cameras, which like, when I look back at how hard I was trying back in the day to stay at or below ISO 400, really says something. #MtFuji #MtTakao after #Sunset #BlueHour #photography
HDR photos in Lightroom blew my mind. I've seen many incremental improvements to resolution, autofocus, etc., but I was stunned how much high dynamic range can transform photos, including thousands I already took. If anyone is able to export an HDR-enabled image from the latest version of #Lightroom and view its HDR output on #macOS or #iOS, please let me know!
Based on my own testing, it seems that macOS Sonoma 14.0 and iOS 17.0.3 do **not** currently display HDR-enabled JPEGs, AVIFs or DNGs. Hopefully that changes soon.

What are good #Lightroom alternative photo editors / library managers that aren’t all about “#ai”? Photomator looks interesting, but I’m a bit put off by the “AI” stuff and the fact that it's (currently) so tied into Apple Photos.
The pure number of opportunities in #darktable can be slightly overwhelming when switching from restricted tools like #Lightroom or #CaptureOne ... and why does my initial RAW look so different from the JPEG preview? My #camera has an 18-55 mm zoom lens. Because I'm often only using the long end of it (and wished it was longer), I was thinking if replacing it with a small and light #prime lens.
To check what focal length would serve me best, I listed the focal lengths I used in my #Lightroom picks of the last couple of years.
Turns out I'm actually using the wide angle more often!
So maybe I'm actually fine with the zoom and the 27 mm prime that I've got.
Next step: checking how often I crop my the photos of that 27 mm!
