A big gun at a law firm brought suit.
He was gunning for those who pollute.
But his target, alas,
Had a limitless mass
Of moolah to fight the dispute.
That’s not all that his target possessed;
It had friends in the courts and was blessed
With political cronies,
Republican phonies
Who impeded his actions with zest.
There is a cat called a liger,
Which is not to be confused with a tiger,
It roars loudly in the night,
Which must be quite a sight,
Its a good thing its not bigger.
Is Limerick especially quiet on Good Friday or what? Up there today for the first time in many years and while O'Connell Street was busy it seemed very quiet elsewhere.
Granted, it's a bank holiday, not a public holiday, but still...

May I say, the surface of the pavement on O'Connell Street is far better than St. Patrick Street in Cork. Love to see the embedded metal grooves which I presume are a help to blind people.

@dublininquirer Colbert Station in #Limerick (and, apart from the everlasting roadworks, lots of the city centre streets) seems to have done a good job of creating a flexible public space with plenty of seating on moveable planters. It was full of activity and social groups on Sunday.

Hmmm. Interesting comments.
I wonder if there are multiple strains of limericks or if I have just had a life-long error in limerick understanding, but I've always assumed limericks have a rhythm-scheme of AABBA, matching the rhyme scheme, where the B rhythm scheme is allowed to be its own in parallel with the rhyme scheme. So I pre-checked it several times with the intent to do this, which I think I achieved:

I'm sure these rhythm schemes have names among the erudite. So if there's an error, I THINK it's in my understanding of the rules. And then there's the issue that I'm not positive I believe in poetry rules at all. :) But there may be some truth-in-labeling issue here, so I'll research this more. :)
By the way, this may also be complicated by a belief I have that limerick is a tolerant format that lets people wedge in extra syllables if they want. I've never been able to exactly identify the rule of when it works and doesn't, but it seems to work in some cases. Anyway, that fact makes it hard when learning from examples to notice if there's a weird rule like you're describing that constrains the rhyme scheme for lines 3 and 4 because there would be counterexamples.
It could be it's just sloppy writing, not intentional permissiveness, that yields this. But limerick I regard as different from much of poetry because a lot of people fear many forms of poetry and limerick has managed to achieve a kind of folk art approachable status that lets dabblers try. Like rap, something about its earthy form brings people in, and through such socialization you also find natural variation because there's no central rules-making.
