@davatron5000 @collinsworth This is an interesting read, though I wonder if this has less to do with compile steps and more to do with authoring format?

You talk about vendor lock-in for the compiler, but I feel the lock-in has more to do with the way you are authoring code. That anything inside a .vue or .svelte file is inherently coupled to those frameworks and is "more locked-in" than something like #Lit. That seems independent of whether or not a compiler is being run.

For example, how would you feel if #Vue or #Svelte shipped your raw templates and interpreted them at runtime? Would that be less locked-in, even though you're writing the same code? What about if Lit *required* a compiler, but otherwise was authored the same way?

I personally always disliked frameworks that fork the #JavaScript language to achieve their ends (ex. framework-specific file extensions or #JSX). I think you're describing a very similar emotional reaction I feel to those FWs, I wonder if it's the same?

I thought I'd recreate the #Blazor demos with #lit web components.

It's pretty neat to have self-contained components that load really fast.

The one drawback I found is Lit components have isolated styles, so components need to import their own styles or your style sheets have to be modified to target the shadow dom elements. #dotnet #JavaScript #aspnetcore

Reading Fernando Pessoa's The Book of Disquiet. It captures the concerns and insecurities of writing, even more, the isolation of being human, even when among people, like few books ever have.
Composed of 500+ brief passages, some a few pages, some a sentence, it's to be savored.

After getting my hands dirty with #lit, I’m finding the docs to be a limiting factor for someone with very basic frontend knowlege. Concepts aren’t simplified enough to where I can hack my way through a simple interactive component.

I’ll hop into #preact next.

I’ll miss that html template string syntax though

I was able to integrate #Vite and #Lit elements into and #aspnetcore application.

This allows you to create reusable web components that are framework agnostic. Drop them into any HTML page as you would any HTML element.

I know Dave and Todd have a good understanding of LIT. It's the update to the RSS that needs to be connected to podping (I suspect) that is a bit fuzzy.

I think it works using HIVE Writer by:
1. Updating your RSS with a LIT Start time
2. HIVE Writer via podping lets apps know
3. Keep updating your RSS while Live or something (fuzzy part)
4. HIVE Writer keeps updating podping
5. Update RSS with a LIT End Time
6. Show over and LIT now static

@developit Could the error handling be done in some kind of dev mode? I know #Angular and #Lit both have the concept of "dev mode" for additional validation.

Personally I like the strict #XML approach, I just didn't realize #JSX was that strict (it's a new experience for me), and figuring that out took a solid 45 minutes of debugging which an error message would have cut down to 1.

Question about the security of #TaggedTemplateLiterals in #JavaScript. I understand how they are called with literal values separated from interpolations, which you can use to identify hard-coded constants which can't be compromised.

But there's no guarantee a tagged template function is _actually_ called via a tagged template literal right? How is it "safe by construction" if anyone can just pass in any input? Example:

```
html([ '<script>alert("Hacked!");</script>' ])
```

I get that this is harder to pull off in practice because you need a reference to the function itself (`html`), not just an input to it. Definitely a huge improvement, but doesn't entirely eliminate #XSS risk. Is there something else I'm missing here?

Probably @justinfagnani or someone else from #Lit would know the answer to this?

@kulykov The magic of #WebComponents is that you can embed a web component written with one framework into a main page or another web component written in a different component. #Lit #SSR requires the whole page be written in just Lit, right? That means it's not SSR'ing web components, just SSR'ing a single framework.

Still magic, but not really web components.

Finally making progress in using a modern JS frontend configuration that's not overtly complicated to use in a Go pipeline.

The secret is using #esbuild as a Go package together with go:embed-ing the CSS and JS directly in the binary. The web-components I'm using are generally #lit-js components from Adobe.

Instructions for building #oni have become:

$ go generate frontend.go
$ go build cmd/oni/main.go

Are deconstruction and new historicism still key interpretative and explanatory frameworks in literary studies today? There are also some that are less than 60 years old, surely? How about, for starters, new materialism, posthumanism, ecocriticism, epistemic justice, electronic literature, perhaps even digital humanities.

not understanding why the hydration is giving issues if I import the component directly with import() instead of building it first and using those files. #lit #ssr

👨‍🔬 Thinking about adding #WebComponents features to native #html elements 🤔

🏁 Goal: add #lit reactive controllers (i.e. context protocol) to native elements

💡 Idea: attach a shadow root to those elements, and append a slot wrapped in a context provider custom element

⚠️ Caveats: not all native elements are allowed to attach shadow roots, but for this case, that's probably fine

🔀 Alternatives: can we do some evil prototype hacking and add ReactiveControllerHost directly on the native elements?

It's 8 nights of #WebComponents tips, one for each night of #Hannukah.
🕯️ 🕯️ 🕯️ 🕯️ *🕯️* 🕯️ 🕯️🕯️🕯️

The last night of Hannukah is called "This is Hannukah", since it encapsulates the entirety of the holiday.

The big idea of web components is interoperability, meaning you can use components with each other, mixing & matching, no matter how they were written. The common interface of #HTML, #CSS, & DOM events/props ties them together.

Use #lit components with #stencil, or hybrids with FAST, & vice versa

#SEO requires good adherence to proper DOM hierarchy, document.title and JSON-LD the latter of which when server-side rendered make it easier for crawlers to read the page. Thanks to the lit-labs/ssr package #SSR is a breeze. Implement a small bit of #node express middleware and you’ve got a #SSR page. I exported declarative Shadow DOM templates for each component that get rendered by #lit even though they are just vanilla #JS, template strings!

@graynorton @mcneely It's a #Lit issue because Lit is alone among the major frameworks in putting component content in #ShadowDOM. It's true that a fix probably needs shadow dom changes, but people using Lit need to know the uses that they're going to have to code manually, and it's Lit folks who have the most expertise to use when pushing for these #WebStandards changes.

Jeffrey Yasskin

So ... I think I have to recommend against using #Lit to build whole websites, because it doesn't seem to support fragment links (https://example/#this-is-the-fragment) well or at all. It's great at building discrete elements without user-addressable parts, but that's not enough for rendering the top level of a whole page.

Tell me I'm wrong at https://github.com/lit/lit/discussions/3524.
