Bonus Photo of the Day 4 25th September 2023.

RG333/G-AIEK, MIles M.38 Messenger 2A, in Royal Air Force D-Day colours, taxiing out to the runway during the annual Manchester Barton air show, some time in the 1990s.
This isn't the actual RG333, which was written off in a crash bin 1945, but just painted to resemble the personal aircraft of Field Marshal Montgomery.

There is also a small white patch underneath the front of the cockpit canopy, with diagonal blue, red, and orange stripes, overlaid with the word "Total", indicating one of the planes sponsors.
In the background, trees and bushes mark the airfield perimeter, with the sky being a variable grey.

On Saturday, the Liverpool Echo reported how chanting children led the charge, at a "hunger march" through the streets of Liverpool as hundreds of people rallied for the right to food.

Demonstrations also took place in London and Belfast, with protesters claiming that "hunger is a political choice" of the British Government.

My late father, Joseph George Bell, was a farmer in #NorthKelsey during #WW2 and volunteered for #AirRaidPrecautions, later known as #CivilDefence. He told a few stories.

One of these stories was of a visit to an RAF Control Room where he saw an attack on Sheffield by air-launched V1 flying bombs. This did happen, but the traceable history is a little different.

There was a #SectorControlRoom at RAF Kirton-in-Lindsey, which is pretty close. The #Sector it covered runs across England, #Lincolnshire to #Liverpool
There was such a air-launched V1 attack, on Christmas Eve 1944, aimed at #Manchester. I have not found accounts of any others. Several V1s fell short, at least 1 near to Sheffield.
To get over the southern end of the #Pennines these missiles would have had to cruise at over 2000 feet, higher than usual for a V1. The launch point would be roughly as far East as #Norwich

Air-launched cruise missiles are older than you think.

My great x4 grandfather's baptism record. Nathaniel Taylor, 1st August 1784, at All Saints #NewtonHeath #Manchester.

Interesting that his father (my g5gf) Samuel's occupation is given as Webster - an old name for a loom operator, or weaver - although it sounds such a 21st century occupation.

Also interesting that pic 1 is from the bishop's transcript, certified as a true copy of the original (pic 2). However my g5gm's name Mary has been mis-transcribed as Margrat.

I'm aware of a #protest this Sun 10 Sept at the People's History Museum in #Manchester, against anti #trans campaign group "Sex Matters" who will be holding a meeting there. Meet outside from 10am (ideally 9:30am), bring placards and shouty joy.

Sex Matters promote conversion therapy for children and many of their leaders are connected with hard line Christian organisations like ADF International (who lobby globally to ban homosexuality and being trans).

Sex Matters have forced the people's history museum to take the booking on the basis that their "gender critical" beliefs have been found to be "worthy of respect in a democracy" and therefore protected from discrimination under law. On that basis and because of the huge funding groups like sex matters have behind them from religious conservative groups, it's impossible for PHM to defend a legal case against this transphobic child abuse promoting hate group.

GoGo Penguin - v2.0

I'm not sure why it took me so long to listen to GoGo Penguin...they've been around a long time, are very acclaimed, and yet I didn't snag any until this year's "Everything is Going to be OK" (featured back in April).

But, I've made up for it, and have filled in the back catalog. This is their 2nd album with the original lineup, and shows the same focus with this trio - piano-led jazz with a great rhythm section.

Big shift from US style and flow, bringing more UK regional delivery in to UK rap. Rock rap hiphop acts like Dust Junkys in the 90s were rare, but laid groundwork for expanding the range of the UK scene similar to say Bodycount or RunDMC did for diversifying rap rock hiphop in the states. Creating more attention & space for breakaway sounds.

The Dust Junkys sound was really fresh for most listeners when it first hit UK.

The cycle lanes through Manchester's Curry Mile don't quite meet the latest standards and suffer from pedestrian overspill in the evenings. But cycling along here is a world better than it was before they went in, when you took your life in your hands with every trip.

Not perfect, but good enough to have made a huge difference to safety and got a lot more people cycling along here.

In summary, all good, deafening fun, but it did feel like there were #Accessibility issues, which is ironic given that #Possessed's lead singer is in a #Wheelchair.

I'm still very mobile, but I dread to think what it might be like for people on crutches, backbraces, pregnancies, & so on.

It doesn't help that gig venues seem bound by sacred law to have next to no seating. The entrance & toilets had too many doors to go through too. Again, I can manage. Plenty can't.

...The gig started at 17,00 and ended around 22.35. That's almost six hours, which is a punishing amount of time to be standing up, especially if you want to see all the acts, and you've got a recurring leg injury, like me.

Some described it as a mini-festival, which is all very well, but at least festivals have grass to sit on.

Even with #Possessed on stage, it ended up feeling like a slog. This dimmed the fun for me, slightly. Oh well.

Anyway, now I'm awake and have had my stomach pumped, I can sum up the gig like so:

* #Possessed were EXCELLENT, and whipped up the crowd no end.

* The BINGBANGBONG intro/segue to 'Fallen Angel' was on point.

* Vapor and Stoic Suffering did nothing for me.

* #MattMiller seemed to be filling in on guitar duties for several acts.

* My biggest complaint was that the gig was too fucking long. Let me explain...
