I have to say it. I often see articles about #bisexuality that feature 7 or 8 bi+ people—think "8 celebrities you didn't know were #bisexual"—that have only 1 or 2 bi+ #men. Not only it feels like the writer couldn't be bothered to look, but it feeds too the myth that we don't really exist.

@ralf Also, #pansexual is often seen as desire regardless of gender. Most pan people say gender isn’t a factor in their attractions. That’s different from most #bisexual people’s experience. It’s 60% of bi folks who have a gender preference. A lot of bi people too say desire feels different depending on the gender of the person, especially when they compare their attractions between #women and #men. And internalized #biphobia makes people doubt some of their desires because of that difference, when these are all valid desires. A lot of bi people don’t have a gender preference, and many use both pan and bi as words to describe their sexuality. But for most bi folks, their experiences are different from those of pan people.
@ralf Boosting even if I have my disagreements with this. I'm of the older bi activist school of thought that #bisexual is a word that resists having just one definition, and I cringe whenever I hear, "bisexuality does not mean...", because oftentimes, yes, it does mean that too. Personally, I push for rehabilitating bisexual as a word that can mean "attractions and desires that can involve #women and #men, among other genders." This is what the word means for a lot of people, and this is how millions of us first begin to make sense of their #sexuality, when they realize they don't just like women or men, but both—because these are the main experience with #gender that most people have. And there needs a word that exists that means that.

US businessman is wannabe ‘warlord’ of secretive far-right men’s network
The founder and sponsor of a far-right network of secretive, #men-only, #invitation-only fraternal lodges in the US is a former industrialist who has frequently speculated about his future as a #warlord after the collapse of America, a Guardian investigation has found.
Federal and state tax and company filings show that the Society for American Civic Renewal (#SACR) and its creator, #Charles #Haywood, also have financial ties with the far-right #Claremont #Institute.
SACR’s most recent IRS filing names Haywood as the national organization’s principal officer. Other filings identify three lodges in Idaho – in #Boise, #Coeur d’Alene and #Moscow – and another in #Dallas, Texas.
The “possibilities involving violence” that his "#Armed #Patronage #Network" might face, Haywood writes include “more-or-less open #warfare with the federal government, or some subset or remnant of it”.
Further on, Haywood writes: “At this moment I preside over what amounts to a extended, quite sizeable, compound, which when complete I like to say, accurately, will be impervious to anything but direct organized military attack”, adding that “it requires a group of men to make it work … what I call ‘#shooters’ – say fifteen able-bodied, and adequately trained, men.”
These “shooters”, Haywood explains, “can operate my compound, both defensively and administratively”, meanwhile, “I have the personality, and skills, to lead such a group.”
#Christofacists calling their "License to be consequence-free assholes" "#ReligiousFreedomRestorationAct" (#RFRA) is just absolutely cruel #sarcasm to the point that if they want the right to be bigotted as protected, I think it's only acceptable for those they target to use the same baseball bat against them.

This week I've mainly been reading, No. 69. Jane Hennigan' post-pandemic partial remix of the Handmaid's Tail, Moths (2023) is a great read. Focussing on a moth-borne disease that effects/kills only men, she looks at the #female society developed in its aftermath & how they treat the remaining #men. Its a lively read & explores the rise of a new governance regime in the margins of its main narrative. Another good bit of female-perspective #sciencefiction with a sequel preparing end.

My Manhood, My Property, My Way
#TIL there is a concept called, "normative male alexithymia," and it is something of which more #men need to be aware.
Alexithymia is known as "emotional blindness," or a severe difficulty in recognizing one's own emotional state. Some people (not all) with #autism experience this co-morbidly, and other people experience it independently; but then there's "normative male alexithymia," which is a recognition by psychologists that it's actually normal for men to struggle with recognizing, describing, and expressing their emotions. My (limited) understanding is that this is more a societal phenomenon than neuropsychological, but I could be mistaken about that.
Regardless, it's important to be aware of. If you struggle with it, you may be aware of frustration and find that you're angry a lot of the time. Anger is often a blanket for us, and usually there is something underneath that. If we feel anxious, we might get pissed off instead. If we feel ashamed, we may get pissed off instead. This might cause us to lash out at people, or internalize that anger--both of which can be extremely harmful to us and the people around us.
Now let's make it personal: I have experienced this myself. As a kid, I was made to believe that other people's emotions are more important than my own. I became a chronic people-pleaser and never developed the tools to work through my own emotions. This is tough because, as someone with #ADHD, I have "big" emotions and I was swallowing them whole to make other people more comfortable around me. This did eventually rear it's head as anger and resentment. I started getting mad all the time, at everything, and I kept internalizing it. Thankfully, I found a great therapist and started working through it before I cracked, and I'm doing much better now, but my avoidant habits did and still do take a toll on my trajectory in life.
In therapy, I've learned techniques like using physical sensations to help identify emotions. People with interoception will struggle with this, but it can be extremely useful for some. For instance, I have learned that I feel certain kinds of sadness in my chest. When I'm feeling that familiar sensation in my chest and I combine that with the context of the situation, I can recognize that I'm likely sad about something. I've improved at this a lot over the last couple of years, and I don't have to consciously work out my emotions as much--I'm getting to the point where I just recognize what I'm feeling. But sometimes, emotions are complex, and I still use that technique to help me sort them out.
If you think this might be you, I urge you to talk to someone about it. You may be hurting the people around you in ways you don't realize, you may be lashing out at others, and you may be internalizing those emotions. #MentalHealth is extremely important, and being able to identify and talk about our feelings is vital.

A man needs honesty to have a sense of honor. And a man needs compassion to be a protector. Not to say these traits are exclusive to one gender or another. Expression of these traits may vary between #men and #women, but the traits are essential to both.
