Heute war das Unboxing meines neuen Google Pixel mit Custom Android #grapheneOS. Es hat ein wenig gedauert, bis ich das #Smartphone eingerichtet habe. Es kommt mit nur sehr rudimentärer Ausstattung an Apps daher. So muss man alle nötigen Apps installieren und einrichten wie #Email, #Kalender, #Messenger, Navigation und was man sonst benötigt. Es hat bei mir ziemlich lange gedauert, bis ich meine Daten darauf synchronisieren konnte, weil etwas nicht funktionierte.

Es nützt ja nichts, wenn sichere #messenger wie #Signal oder #Threema ihre bisher vertrauenswürdige #Vetschlüsselung auf brechen müssen damit #whatsapp den Klartext bekommt und neu verschlüsselt.
Dann hat WhatsApp wieder jede Nachricht im Klartext (wäre ja noch schlechter als direkt von WA zu WA zu schreiben).
Das ist dann eben keine #e2eencryption mehr, sondern Homöopathie...

No, unfortunately the #DMA does *not* force gatekeeper social networks to interoperate even if smaller ones want it.
Despite #DigitalRights groups like @edri fighting for this, there was much political & #lobbying resistance, and now Article 7 DMA on mandatory #interoperability only applies to messaging services, not social networks.
So, @element and @threemaapp could ask Whatsapp and #Facebook #Messenger to interoperate, but the #Fediverse won't be affected.

I am very much enjoying my experience using Beeper, a Matrix-based chat application to tie all your chats together. Particularly the way that they have managed to actually bridge iMessage so that I can respond to it natively from my Android or Linux machine.

So apparently the #Facebook #Messenger is going to get "End to End #encryption this year.
End-to-end is good on principle but don't get fooled. This app is proprietary so this encryption is absolutely worthless. You have to blindly believe them they didn't add any secret government backdoor to break the encyrption. And a backdoor is likely, due to the #PRISM surveillance program.
I never trust #prorietary #software because they have something to hide. I trust Facebook even less.

There should be a legal requirement that big companies can be reached by #email. When companies try and force you to contact them using #Facebook #Messenger, that just isn't good enough.

I’ve previously assumed that it was popular in Eastern Europe because it was made in the region, but don’t want to miss anything.
@anders I'd really like all my contacts to move to the #Matrix network. But of course I know nothing will happen just because I recommend it.
First of all, #Messenger just works for most people; everyone is there, and convenience just wins over concerns about #Meta's data gathering.
Secondly, and sadly, Matrix' entry level is probably just a bit to high for most people.
@anders Once in a while it comes to me, I should clean out all the old cr💩p I accumulated on #Facebook and #Instagram. But then again, why bother? It probably wouldn't even matter because I suppose it would only be soft deleted.
And I'm still using #Messenger from time to time (because everyone is there), so #Meta still collects my data. I'm trying to reduce it, though, by using a privacy focused browser, blocking cookies, etc.
