Просто игра звучит вкусно но на деле это откровенная помойка в плане удобства и симпатичности. И я пробовал #mineclone2 , но это именно клон который пытается скопировать много но не особо качественно.
По этому я подумал, почему никто не пытается взять за основу старые версии Minecraft и пытаться реализовать их механики? Банально их меньше и они сами по себе проще.

@blindcoder if you don't care about mobs and are interested in building machines/automation, you may want to look into #NodeCore. It's a #Minetest game with a very different “form” compared to Minecraft-inspired ones, while still preserving the fundamental “dig and build” principle.
while there is an impressive modding scene around #minetest, i'm very curious- how many people just spin up a server and goof around in vanilla?
i'd love to find that people can have/are having the same kinda fun that old minecraft alpha/beta players used to have, in servers with friends :3
What's a good start into #Minetest? I tried Mineclone 2, but there are so many mobs at night that all I can do is camp in a house until night is over (boring).

Recent progress on the #Repixture mobs (=animals/monsters): I added support for multiple "task queues" that can run in parrallel.
A task is a simple thing that a mob does, like walking or eating grass. A task queue is just a sequence of task the mob has to do in order.
The best thing is that I can now teach the mobs to do multiple things at once. It's loosely inspired by operating system schedulers.

@jq i don't agree with mojang on updates - i don't use them. And secretly waiting for #minetest updates. Since minetest is open source you need to wait for some changes. Mojang/microsoft with development towards warrior things don't impress me. I don't like bosses and fights. I don't like - i don't eat (folk proverb).
#Minetest 5.8 will have an improved settings menu
The new design should be much easier to use. Settings are organised in a more logical way, and you can see more settings without digging into a huge advanced settings tree

For a long time, Minetest shipped with a default game called "Minetest Game". This was a fairly barebones survival game and gave a bad first impression. Minetest is all about customisation, the choice of multiple games is a big part of that. Now, new users are directed to choose a game using ContentDB
We'll be making further improvements in the future to make this process easier to understand
We're now in feature freeze for #Minetest 5.8! This is a period of time before a release where we only do bug fixes

I've been doing some experimentation across both common and less common #MineTest assets for this, and even I am impressed at how efficient #JXL can be as an image format, especially for higher-resolution images, even when not used at its best (e.g. to produce “round-trippable” images from JPEG source material).
I've also opened an issue for #MineTest to introduce support for the format for its textures:

with the aim (at the very least) to minimize disk space and wire transfer for graphical assets (mostly node textures, maybe some UI elements). There's an interesting discussion ongoing, including alternative approaches to improve the assets sizes without changing format, but the fact that the issue hasn't been closed yet is something I consider a positive.
Alright, after doing all that MiBPoV stuff I continue my work on the #Repixture mobs again. Today I've re-implemented drowning and damage from blocks (like spikes). And code documentation. Progress is slow but steady.
Remember this is all behind-the-scenes work so if successful, the player shouldn't really notice a difference except for a few bugfixes.

In the base game, you can rotate certain blocks, but you do this by going through each possible orientation in order.
My mod replaces the rotation logic, so you can rotate stuff in more useful ways, and the game shows you how the block will rotate with a HUD element on the cursor (may be removed?) and a now also a visual entity in-world.
I hope to soon publish it on the ContentDB as well, though there's still some things to iron out.

There's are 2 reasons why I worked on a very specialized devtool (MiBPoV) for #Minetest (that will likely not be used very often):
1) No such libre (!) tool existed. The default recommendation to #Minetest devs so far was "use GeoGebra" but this is proprietary and it was painful to make it work anyway
2) I needed an excuse to actually do a larger #JavaScript project after completing the tutorial 🤓
I've decided to call my #Minetest biome editing tool "MiBPoV" because it's the "Minetest Biome Point Visualizer" and because "MiBPoV" sounds funny.
This tool now is almost usable; the most basic features work but not 100%. I've posted it online now and you can check it out, if you're into Minetest #development:

I've been working on a #development tool for #Minetest today. It's a #JavaScript program that lets you visualize the #Voronoi diagram of biome points. In Minetest, each 2D position gets assigned a heat and humidity value, and each biome has a heat and humidity point. So if the world position has a heat and humidity that is closest to a given biome X, that biome will be used at that position.
This is useful to make sure the biomes in the world are more or less balanced.

The main menu gets more love in preparation for the 5.8.0 release, developers come and go, and new shaders are in the works. CTF celebrates its 10th anniversary, and new API mods make their way to ContentDB.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, I've been enjoying the little extras from #Minecraft mods and modpacks. Exploring the Create Extra modpack now.
Perhaps even less surprisingly, I'm wondering how much I could do with #Minetest. Hypothetically all of it, but realistically it would be slow going.
Someone recently suggested as a joke that we should have a Gaming SIG in #CentOS.
But looking at how often wine updates break the games which were working(and fix the games which weren't) and how many native games require old libraries, it might be a reasonable thing to do.

So #Minetest is turning out to be a really fun game to play. Since it has proven popular with my family and my brother's family, I went ahead and added some daily scripts to back to the world and added the whitelist mod. I also discovered "auth.txt" has been replaced with "auth.sqlite", so editing it to give myself the necessary permissions to do basic server admin stuff while in game was a little more complicated, but I managed.

Genuine advice: if you plan to open #Minetest server and expect to experience something close to Minecraft - please, please DO NOT USE Mineclone5 instead of Mineclone2.
At some point some folks made a fork of mcl2 and added their fixes/improvements, it was called "Mineclone5", and for a few months the game really had more close features to the latest Minecraft: Java Edition version. For example, inner skin editor (in mineclone2 you only could change gender at the time).
As of right now, that's not relevant anymore. The project seems abandoned (of course, I could be wrong, but...), mineclone2 has more commits, newer items (for example, Lightning Rod, which mcl5 lacks). Mineclone5 now has a pretty buggy world generation, when it comes to the nether. You will have a hard time finding nether fortress (if you even can), in fact, you will have a hard time finding any life whatsoever, the place feels empty, which is not the case in mcl2.
I had to rebuild a lot of stuff cause of me trusting a bigger number and their game description in order to move from mcl5 to mcl2 on my private server for friends. Do not repeat my mistake.
