He said, "Okay, I want you to go to The Men's Hat Shop, tell them I sent you, and I'm buying you a cowboy hat." I was pretty shocked, but I thanked him a couple of times. This was probably the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, and I didn't have any intention of going to get the hat, but the next day, I decided I would take him up on it. I went to the Men's Hat Shop, I walked in and said, "This may sound strange, but Don Imus sent me here... he wanted to buy me a hat." The employee I spoke with said, "Oh yeah, Don does that a lot." So, I was fitted for the hat, and there it is... my cowboy hat story.

Regarding the cowboy hat photo I posted yesterday: I thought that photo was older than 4 years... it was... it's from 5 years ago. It popped up as a memory from 4 years ago because it must have been 4 years since Don Imus passed away. Don Imus bought that hat for me in 2004. When I was working mornings at KOAT in Albuquerque, his radio show producer in New York called our newsroom early one morning, asking if I could give him a weather forecast. Don ran the Imus Ranch between Santa Fe and Las Vegas at the time. He was going to fly in, and a blizzard was coming. So, I called in to his New York radio show and gave him the forecast on the air. He thanked me and asked me where I was from, I told him I was from Montana. He asked me if I owned a cowboy hat, and I told him I didn't. There was dead silence for a bit, and he then said, "Okay, do you know where Central is?" I said yes. (continued)

Mistakes happen. But not often.
We can only think of a few maps with mistakes, done as map makers tried to keep up with the flurry of changes to all those western U.S. territories. It would have been a challenge, especially from the 1830's to the late 1860's. And sometimes, maps from this era can be an amalgam of configurations.
Here, a good map from a French publisher in the late 1860's, but they kind of transposed the territories of Idaho and Montana.

We have a very rural state, too, with small-to-tiny isolated towns surrounded by vast expanses of near-empty land. The populace is informed by Fox, Sinclair, right-wing radio, and very little else. Montana’s ban is “technically incompetent” because our legislature is full of badly misinformed literal incompetents.

In Montana, young residents just won a lawsuit charging that construction of a new gas power plant was barred by the state constitution. But “pro-climate” President Joe Biden is arguing fiercely against letting the US Supreme Court hear a similar case.
The wording in Article IX, Section 1, of Montana’s constitution couldn’t be clearer: “The state and each person shall maintain and improve a clean and healthful environment in Montana for present and future generations.” Accordingly, in April, a district court judge in Yellowstone County voided a permit for a natural gas–fired power plant under construction there. Over its lifetime, it would have released an estimated twenty-three million tons of planet-roasting carbon dioxide, and that, ruled the judge, was incompatible with a “clean and healthful environment” in Montana or, for that matter, anywhere else.

Teck is a very large Canadian mining company that dumps pollutants into the Elk River which flows into the Kootenai River which flows into Montana. This pollution impacts fish and other wildlife. And the local rodeo association takes monetary donations from Teck to put on rodeos and Bull Thing here in Eureka, MT (7 miles from Canadian border). The guy in charge of the association doesn’t consider it a pay off. And Teck keeps dumping selenium into the water. #Teck #montana #climatecrisis #epa
