Sewage dumped into bathing spots 21,000 times last year.
Three of the top 5 are on Morecambe Bay, St Anne's is on the Ribble, just to the south of Morecambe Bay, and Allonby Bay is a bit further up the Cumbrian Coast. Absolutely horrific.

Another from this afternoon's walk on Warton Crag: Old Man's Beard (Clematis vitalba) clambering though Blackthorn, just before the sun went down over Morecambe Bay.
Back in 2017, on a whim, we attended a conference at #LancasterUniversity on Rare #butterflies of #MorecambeBay.
One of the presentations was on the Duke of Burgundy (Hamearis lucina), and just two days later, having joined @savebutterflies we found ourselves on a work party planting the Duke's larval food plant – primroses – in South Cumbria.
I was hooked. Got involved in surveying habitat, counting adult butterflies and then hunting for eggs and larvae.
The start of my butterfly obsession.
Far #Arnside and #MorecambeBay this morning. Lovely to feel the sun on your face after a week of rain.
This is Silverdale, a coastal area of salt marshes, estuaries, Morecambe Bay, and low limestone coastal hills.
